Reprofiling a FFBM

Maybe he had dropped it i guess, Oh well its fixed now so i'm sure he'll be happy.

I dunno, it looked like someone chopped a sharpening steel one time with it, or maybe a big nail.

Whatever caused it, it was very hard and round.

Thanks Doug. :)

It was extremely sharp when I was finished with it...

It would pop hairs with the slightest touch. :D

And I didn't even take it to high polish. :)

Why are edge pro edges so uneven near the tip? One thing I hated about it, uneven bevels.

It's not uneven, the angle is the same all the way across the blade... ;)

On some knives the tip thins out some and once you match the angle rest of the blade that's what it looks like.

My NMFBM and a few others don't look like that because the Blade is more uniform. ;)

Doing them on a grinder you would have to change the sharpening angle towards the tip to keep the edge uniform looking. But the angles would be much different, say 20 degrees at the handle to 30 degrees or more at the tip. ;)

Notice how even the edge is on the NMFBM, the grind is even along the whole blade.

I agree with Ankerson. The blade grinds are not that even side-to-side and front-to-back.

The grind just above the edge is usually very thick along most of the blade then they really thin out towards the tip.

It really shows up up big time when using a system that has a fixed angle.

It's not a problem for me as I just make the whole edge the same angle, I was just pointing it out because Mike was talking about uneven edges.

What I do is make the edge the same angle all the way from the tip to the choil evening it out. It's the difference in the grind from the choil to the tip that makes the edges look like they do.

Now if I had a grinder I could thin out the grind to even it out along the whole blade, that is if I knew what I was doing with a grinder.

If they could make the grind above the edge the same thickness from the choil to the tip like say on the NMFBM they would look perfectly even when keeping the same sharpening angle.

I am not complaining at all, I am just pointing it out that it ain't me. :) ;)

Brother So-Lo can slap a beautiful freehand mirror edge on a knife, but that is way beyond my skill set. So this Edge Pro is going to be groovy because it removes from the equation my inability to hold a fixed angle when working freehand.

You should be good to go then. :D
