Hey guys,

I've got a saber ground knife that's getting really thick in the edge, and I'd like to reprofile it to a full flat ground. I was wondering if it is possible to use a surface grinder for this, and if so, how do I use it?

I appreciate all the help!

Welcome back to Bladeforums.
Most folks would re-profile or re-bevel a finished blade with a belt grinder.
It would be a lot of work, but it could be done on a set of DMT bench stones, too.

I used a surface grinder to do a saber grind a long time ago. It was more trouble than it's worth. A belt grinder is the way to go.

I believe he is trying to convert a saber to a flat.
Yes it can be done, you will need a magnetic sine plate. Even better a magnetic compound sine plate to get the bevel angle, and taper at the same time.
