Reprofiling a spear point tip

Hi, i am new to knives and I recently got a knife with a spear point but the tip is broken off. Should i go at it with a file?

You probably won't get far with a file. If the blade is hardened as it should be, the file should skate and not remove much material. What other tools do you have available?

If I were to try it I'd clamp the blade in a padded vice and file from the handle towards the tip
Use finer and finer sandpaper afterwards

Dude, go to harbor freight and pick up a 1x30 sander. Then go to tru-grit online and pick up some decent belts. Then fix the problem for about 50 bucks and you'll also be able to tinker around with a lot more knife stuff after that, too.

I would try taking it down using a diamond file since the steel is probably too hard to use a regular file.
