Hello all,

I may be getting involved in a reasonably high dollar trade, but the horror stories make me nervous. Is there any such thing as a reputable broker that will make sure that both parties will get their trade items?

Thanks!

I haven't heard of anyone using a broker on this site before. I've seen it mentioned, but never used. I've done two trades with members on this site and they went smoothly. One member had 60- some positive reviews, the other had 3 or 4.

My advice is to do your homework on the other party before committing to anything. If they're a contributing member who enjoys this forum as much as the rest of us do, I sincerely doubt they'd plan something nefarious. That's not always true, but 99% of the time it is.

Good luck!

I've seen brokers elsewhere, Facebook groups sometimes use an admin to play the go-between to receive both knives before forwarding to the new owners. Haven't seen anyone charge for it though.

Alternative option is to just pay each other via PayPal G & S and eat the fee as the cost of insurance. Still not guaranteed but much better than blind trust.
Is that how trades are done on here? If not, is it typically done unsecured and based on trust?

I don't know for a fact, but it appears to me it's typically on trust. Some folks also have significant buy sell trade feedback that can be considered when interacting with them.

I think most trades are done like that on here. I will say there's a lot more that happen where both parties are completely satisfied than where someone rips another off. We always tend to see the bad outcomes, not the good ones.

If I was planning on doing a high dollar trade I'd probably want some security as well(over $750). Most trades tend to be closer to the $100-400 limit from what I can tell.

The highest risk is that one or the other knife isn't up to as promised rather then an outright rip off. I am not sure exactly how the broker would help there unless they unpackaged the knife inspected it and made a determination as to condition. At which point they might be accused of any damage the knife had. I personally don't like trades. I would much rather do a direct purchase and sale. Trades are best done between those that know and trust each other IMO.
