Reputation points.

Rep points are like LSD if ya dose everyone then no one will care what the other guy has, he'll just be facinated by what he has.

As far as cliques of rep point buddies, I tried an experiment a while back where for 2 weeks my sig line said if you like my post give me + rep points I got more + rep points then I knew what to do with I belonged to no cliques, I had no rep point buddies I asked and I received, if you want more points to make you feel better ask, if it bothers you that someone dings you or someone else than maybe your placing way to much value on the points and not enough on the content of the post.

I don't smoke and my car has a cigarette lighter, I'm not gonna junk the car because I don't smoke and I consider the lighter superfluous/useless,(did I really use superfluous in a sentence? My 6th grade english teacher would be so proud.)

My point is just because I don't like something doesn't mean I should deprive everyone else of it, don't like the system ignore it and don't use it, it's like statistics, they only have value to the people who use them.

So you like the system. I venture to say that you are in the minority.
I've yet to hear someone elaborate on it's value to the forums.

This reputation points thing is bull sh*t.

Correct. Although I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

Let's face it, unless one is a veritable font of wisdom combined with the patience of Job and the demeanor of Mother Teresa, they couldn't possibly accumulate all those rep points without there being some sort of tag team quid-pro-quo going on.

It would be nice, however, if penalty rep points were also made quid-pro-quo, so that a giver of negative points stood to receive a similar 'reward' if the dinged recipient felt so inclined to exercise the option.

...'Even the playing field', so to speak.

I also think the Rep Points thing is dumb....it is just like a "high-school clique" thing.

I got over it and now I dont' care if I get dinged all the time. It used to make me mad. Now I ding people with a bad rep if I think they were a jerk in their post. I compliment them if I think they were helpful.

Whooopie dooo :)

Here's how stupid the system is:

I gave K.V. Collucci a negative rep point because I thought he was too harsh in his post.

Because he is a moderator he can see that "I" gave that point to him.

So he then gives me a negative rep point back with this "This is not the first time Avergeguy has bitched about the rep system. He has done so in the past and his thread was started to stir the pot, which it has. It would best if you understood the whole situation before you go ding somebody. Neg to you."

That is a perfect example of why the system doesn't work. He only gave me that point because I gave him a bad point.

And yet he's here telling people to get over it.

So..if someone has an opinion different than your own on a topic you're dinging them? And you say you don't care about getting dinged yet you find it necessary to post a private exchange between you and I out in the open. You are a hypocrite. How about not dinging negatively if you disagree?

And you deserved those neg points. Who are you to tell me that I was too harsh in my reply? True, you can have an opinion about it but was it worthy of getting dinged for? I doubt it. I think you did it simply to be a douchebag and prove your point, which is pointless, btw. Do I care that you neg repped me? No. I didn't lose any points because of it. I negged you because you have no clue as to what you are talking about. Neg rep me all you like...I couldn't care less. averageguy has always hated the rep system. Maybe if spent more time enjoying the forum instead of starting useless threads like this one he'd get more positive points instead of spouting off at the mouth about "why the rep system doesn't work".

In post #3 I state what I use the rep system for. I suggest you do the same.

And for the record...I gave averageguy positive points for this starting this thread.

You seem to be making the case for not having the reputation point system. Anyone can give negative and/or positive reputation points, but you seem to think that this person somehow doesn't deserve to give you negative points. Why's that? That makes you seem kinda "sensitive" to reputation points, yourself.

Wait a minute. Someone gave you a negative reputation point and yet, as you say, you didn't lose any points? That sounds like there's a difference between how reputation points effect people, depending upon their status at BladeForums. Are moderators immune from negative reputation points? Oh, yes, that sounds like a really fair system.

Oh, FoM can ding me if he wishes but his reasoning behind why is weak. Like I said earlier ding me all you want. I know my reputation is intact on BFC whether we have the rep system or not. And you should read the Rep Point FAQs before making assumptions. I get negged from time to time and I lose a point or two. As a mod it happens all the time. Sometimes I get negged because I moved a thread to the appropriate forum. I have been here a long time and I have helped people straighten things out BFC and personally. I base my rep on that and the fact that I am willing to go out of my way to help anyone on this forum if they request it. Ask anyone....I give without asking for anything for myself.

with my name you may (or may not) see that I have run into a bunch of fools that love to post me their comments...well, good for them.

Im sure in their little minds that posting to me things like "Get a clue' have me up nights as I question, "Oh how can I make that guy like me more?...LOL

The truth is that I love to receive neg rep points...I love it because they mean my words are hitting home and really getting under the skin of the guys I was aiming at...

When I post an idea and find no change in my neg numbers I start to question if my post was even read...

LOL......(ok, perhaps I dont think that all the time...LOL)

I've read the reputation point FAQ, and, thus far, I haven't seen anything stating "weak" or 'strong' reasons to give reputation points. Reputation points are a free-for-all. If someone isn't capable of expressing their opinion in a post, they are free to back-stab you with an anonymous ding. I won't stoop to that level, but there are others that have no problems with it.

It's very obvious that you have a double standard.

You were being a jerk in your reply to averageguy. Because you were a jerk I dinged you. Not because i didn't like your opinion.

For a mod you certainly have some growing up to do.

Also.....for one that doesn't care abour rep points you sure do have a lot of them and also take offense when someone dings you.

LOL.......go figure.

We have and we're tired of hearing that we should read it. If there were actually valid points with good reason in the FAQ there wouldn't be so many questions. You can see that the FAQ was written in a very "cocky" manner.

Also.......on a side note. K.V. Collucci is the sole reason that I have avatars turned off. I don't need to see women in next to nothing everytime I come here. It sucks too because I like some other people's avatars.

I guess that's another thing I shouldn't complain about or worry about :)

Yes.....I like women, and I am married......but I don't need to see them on posts all the time.

Speaking of negative reputation points, it seems that I've just received a "weak" one, and anonymously, too:

"I agree with your comments,,,However I decided to Disapprove anyway just because I should have posted your post first"

This seems a reason to be able to ding one's own reputation points....
