Request for DE OPPRESSO LIBER's For Sale Thread to be re-opened...

What might help this cause is to show exactly where the money is going to go; bank name, persons name who is benefitting from the money, and an account number, and possibly a contact person and number at the bank the account is set up for. I see this as normal activity for fundraisers in my community.

D.O.L., what Kevin is trying to get is that you have offered to purchase one of the donated knives. This is fine, but it appears that you theoretically could get a free knife by having the knife sent to you, then you not making the donation to the account, since you are handling the account.

Now, no one is accusing you of doing anything wrong at all, but it can be perceived just as I stated above. That is why there is a question. Normally, when doing fundraising, or handling these types of things, the person in charge generally needs to insulate themselves from any possible wrongdoing, or perception of such, by not being an active participant in the activity. (In this case, a buyer).

You have my support in this. We just need Sparks approval, and then we'll reopen the thread.

I am in full support of Paul on this and despite some of the confusion over the matter feel that he is just trying to do the best he can under the situation.

We are not all experts on such things and during a crises no one considers all the angles. One of the funny things about such board activities is that we do become connected - family like if you will - and what happens to one affects many.

I hope his thread, given full consideration, is reopened and that his fund raising is allowed to continue.

Just notice this thread, I'm sure Paul has his best intention for little Rachael.

Please re-open the fund raising sales thread to help little Rachael.

While I can appreciate the family nature of this for DE OPPRESSO LIBER, the long and the short of it is that this site is not here for fundraising. We have a very difficult time supporting our members who encounter problems (see VampireGerbil) and I'm even less inclined to allow everyone to use the userbase here for their own particular cause. I don't enjoy asking people for money, hence the lack of support auctions this site has, despite the financial difficulties we experience.

This thread rubs me wrong for a number of reasons. One, I hate appeals to emotion, especially about sick and dying relatives. Two, I hate seeing people use these situations to their own advantage. Third, I don't like people trying to pressure or manipulate me.

There's going to be a rule laid down after this, where no one will be allowed fundraising efforts for third parties. You want to do it, do it offsite. You want to sell your collection and donate the funds; be my guest. Don't use the site for it.
