It seems that the most popular items are actually straight blades of various types. In fact, I see them get snapped up right away while many traditional Kukris get passed over. On the second hand market, they command a premium while the bent blades sell for bottom dollar.

I just saw the Crow knife and I thought it looked very handy. It was snapped up before I saw it but it makes me wonder why more models and variations are not offered.

I have owned and used many of the bent kukri knives but I still prefer the straight blade for everyday use. It can just do more. Try, cutting on a chopping board with a kukri and you will see what I mean.

I would love to see more straight blades like the Crow knife or machete type blades. I have not bought a new kukri in a few months but I think a nice HI machete would get my attention.

HI offers various straight blade knives but specialize in khukuris....
crow knives have been popping up quite a bit lately... try dropping auntie yangdu a line to see if any more are available
im sure she would be able to assist you ;)

crow knife, d1 knife, trisul, munk cleaver & various HI bowies are all pretty straight bladed :D
regarding your request for a machete... the HI backwards blade sword is very very machete like imo

there are also the many small knives that HI offers

I will ask our kamis to make more straight blades. Thank you Kgriggs8

auntie yangdu herself is here with a response :)
isnt she the best lol :D

THANK YOU AUNTIE!!!

The Pen Knife excels cutting food on a chopping board, and in kitchen use. There's a lot of control in using it as such.

And if you like the straight ones, don't miss the HI seax. Non-traditional but two thumbs up.

And for your request for a machete style blade look at the Indonesian Sword. Just geared for heavier use than thin bladed machetes. It's a corn knife on steroids.

You mean like this one...:D

if straight blades outsell curved ones, I haven't noticed. But it's nice Yangdu will provide what we want.

I think you're just seeing the effects of scarcity on price. There aren't nearly as many HI straight blades available as there are bent blades, so they attract notice when they're posted for sale and are sharked up quick. The bent blades are still outselling them in terms of volume because keep in mind that there are a bunch of blades sold through the store that we don't see here. All of that is actually good; if there's a high demand for straight blades they should make more, as long as they continue to sell.

I'm another fan of the straight blade. I have a khuk for every occation. However, now that i live in suburbia and my camping trips are few and far between, I have grown to really love the straighter smaller blades of HI. I'm a huge fan of the seax. I'm also very much in love with the munk chunk cleaver i bought for my birthday last year. I had a nice Trisul with a bad heat treat some time back. I miss that wicked little dagger, and i'm sharking/shopping for one right now. Khuks are great, and they will always sell. However, as a user of khuks and not a collector I have run out of reasons to buy khuks that I have no use for. I would honestly feel bad to deny them the purposeful life that they were built for. I still love HI, and HI is still what I buy when I can buy, so having smaller and not so small straight blades that are nothing like my dozens of khuks give me a reason to keep supporting a company that I love.

HI makes some lovely conventional blades. I've got a nice Kumar Karda at home and drool over pics of the occasional trisul. Still, I think they're best known for their khuks, at least that's what I think of first when HI comes to mind. Roadrunner's point about the relative scarcity of the straight blades is a good one.
I think you should ask Yangdu if she has a particular blade and buy it.. and if more straight blade fans follow suit, they'll become a more regular offering.

As per using a khuk on a cutting board, I know a fellow on another forum who does just that!

Lefthandblack drew that and Yangdu met the drawing with a blade. (it was Lefthandblack, right??) Amazing design and story. Bam. Instant classic. One beautiful Bowie.
They are offerred from time to time; the Chitlangi Bowie.

I couldn't believe it - how he came up with that. It was dynamite. We love chitlangis; we love Bowies: put the two together and what do you got??!!

An Arkansas Toothpick with the aim of the Eye of Shiva.

How about a "group buy"? I'd put some $$ down for one these, that is one impressive blade!
