I`m know alot of yall like to crack on Dark Ops but have any of yall put them to the test??? If you have, and their knives are as bad as their hype, then I`ll be able to understand yall making fun of them so much. They`re copies of Extrema Ratio so how bad could they be??? But the hype is worst than Cold Steel.

tooo funny, I guess you missed the picture of the lock from the hand picked folder from the owner of the company?

1. They rip off Extrema Ratios designs.
2. They flat out lie to their customers in their ads.
3. What Dave said.

I know that you're aware that BFC members generally don't think too highly of Dork Ops (to put it mildly), but these three points bear repeating.

Spend your money elsewhere.

I was never planning on buying a Dork Ops just to let you know. I was just wanting to see how their hype compared to their performance.

Edited my post while you were typing. I just wanted to repeat these points, in case anyone reading this thread missed the first two.

Is it possible to break in the lock to get better engagement, lots of liners and integrals are that insecure initially.

Is it my eyesight.

In an earlier thread showing that picture, i was shocked enough to post about the pitted an porous looking surface finish of the blade itself around the thumbstud.

And, even after getting over that lock engagement side of things, i still would be a bit pissed over that too,but the blade finish, looks crappy from end to end imho, and only 300us,wow.Sign me up.

I wonder in jest, if Benchmade and Spyderco alike are not a little worried about the new coming competition here.

Yeah, if they're standing near staircases or something they might injure themselves while rolling on the floor laughing their asses off.

The Recon Scout is the only Cold Steel knife that I own (so I can’t speak for the entire product line) but the RS has done a wonderful job for me. I’ve used this knife primarily for camping (setting up camp sites, cutting fire wood…….hunting for Chupacabra) and I’ve had no problems what so ever. The Recon Scout has held up great for me even despite heavy use.

Cliff, I actually took a dremel to the lock and now it has a far more secure engagement. I had to remove a SIGNIFICANT amount of material to make it fit better. The problem with the factory lock engagement is that even a single grain of sand could prevent it from locking. Self-cleaning my arse. Also, based on the amount of material I had to remove and from where it was removed, I would say that during normal use, you are actually more likely to make the lock LESS secure than to improve it.

Yes, the original lockup was just barely touching, but that really isn't that uncommon a problem, lots of liners and integrals just barely engage and NIB are prone to failures. However with them you can seat the lock with a few inertial openings and get better engagement and more security. Can the Dark Ops folder get and more secure at all with break in, or does it actually have to be ground out by the user?

Dunno Cliff, it looks kinda like it may just be the coating on the lockbar and blade interfering with proper tolerance, but that's beside the point. This is a 240 dollar street price folder, that sort of thing is unacceptable. What's worse is the picture is the hand picked replacement for the first stratofighter that had a similar problem.

Cliff, that's what I stated in my previous post. Regular use, or wear induced with regular use WILL NOT in my opinion improve lockup. And it's not just the coating. Not by a longshot. I had to remove ALOT of material...

Theres no way ill buy a 200.00+ knife & start grinding away at it with a dremel to make it work...................
