I'm thinking of getting a Benchmade 551 Griptilian. This would be my first axis lock . I just want to have one for EDC or just to show to others because it has an axis lock. Lots of opinions welcome. Thanks!
The 551 is a great knife. I have one myself and it's one of my favorites. Now that's it's available in D2, it should be even better. Don't get me wrong, the 440C version (which I have) is great as well; it takes a razor sharp edge and sharpening it is very easy. The ergos are superb and the AXIS lock is wonderful. IMO, it's one of the best knives in it's price range.
Great little knife. If you do a search you can find my initial review...I'm just too lazy to search for it myself right now Seriously though, get one and never look back!

-Hey wait a minute...what about your Sebenza??!?!!
Built like a tank. Smoothest opening folder I've owned, used or played with.
I even used it with a billet to split hardwood shims - don't ask. I didn't have my tools available.
Takes a good edge. Easy to sharpen. The feel in your hand is addictive.
I prefer the stud to the hole, so I purchsed the 551.
I like the Griptialians sooo much that I'm going to purchase the 556 in D2 for my "work carry." I've been carrying my 710HS, but work says no blades over 3".
I picked one up to carry for a while. It's a great knife, as others have already said, holds a good edge, easy to resharpen, feels great in the hand, opens smooth and fast, what's not to like. The price is also quite reasonable. I'd say pick one up and be happy.
I picked up one of these a while ago (the 551), as well as the mini version (556). The 551 is nice, but the handles do not feel as solid as the 556. The reason for this perception is that the 551 and the 556 use the same size liners on different sized handles, so the weight-to-length ratio is smaller for the 551 than the 556.
I ended up selling the 551 and keeping the 556. However, thinking about it makes me want to go pick up another one
