Regardless of what the Rules & Regs say, you will not win the fight at the checkpoint with TSA. These days if you have to ask the question "Will they allow........" just assume the answer is no. It is far easier. Either that or only carry toys you don't mind losing. Just my .02 as a cop who flys a lot. And yes, I get all kind of hassles too.
