Rescue Knife... does it exist?

for the record, the bk3 is a great first responder's knife.

I haven't had to cut a seatbelt with it yet. I like its cutter, though, its plenty sharp and large enough to fit a small, round sharpening stone in when it starts to dull (which is nice too). I think it would do fine, but i generally prefer a serrated blade for cutting belts during roof removal. Around the patient, I prefer Trauma Shears if I have a set on me.

Gotcha. Thanks.

PS, she arrived today. Hope he likes it as much as I do, this thing seems pretty nice for 30 bucks!

window punch? is that anything like a donkey punch?

BTW: what knife can't cut a seatbelt?

if you wanna break a window, why not use a rock or anything else harder then glass? there are tons of stuff and if he really is a fire fighter, why not use a fire axe or... um... keys???

Hey all,

First post, first thread here... Got a question for ya. A good friend of mine is a fire fighter & has been looking for a rescue knife with specific criteria and I'd really like to help him out...

Criteria:
Seat belt cutter, window punch...
But here's the tricky part... FIXED blade, not a folder.

He seems to be pretty adamant about those three, so if you guys could help, that would be flippin awesome.

Does it exist? I've searched everywhere and have come up empty thus far. Thanks in advance for the help.

oi, talk about some poor firefighters. cant even afford a set of jaws of life. why pry when you can just cut up a car? I'd suggest a sawzall, you can cut a car in half in like less then a minute!

If he doesn't need an actual edge just a seat belt cutter the benchmade rescue hooks work great and have everything he needs.

This might work and do what you wanted......Guild Knives & Tools First Responder's Knife....seat belt hook, serrated blade, flat tipped with angle for prying. glow dot in handle, glass breaker butt, O2 wrench slots on end and middle of handle, kydex sheath. Made from 3/16" N690 cobalt stainless and bead blasted. 6 inches long.

Not sure that butt would be at all useful for breaking tempered glass. A carbide tip is a huge improvement over just having some exposed steel at the back of the butt. Other than that it looks like a nice piece.

I'm not trying to be harsh but you have no idea what you're talking about.

There are usually victims in the car. Do you want some one swinging an axe through the window next to your head.

And by the way, go get an axe and see just how easy it is breaking tempered glass with it. Most times, when I see guys doing it, it bounces off the window 3 or 4 times before they finally baseball swing it so hard it can't help but break.

I'm not even going to address the rock suggestion, or the keys. I'll just say that the public expects a bit more professionalism for their money.

Thank you. I saw that post & didn't even bother submitting a reply. Axe? Rock? Keys? REALLY? I loled.

Anyway... In other news I gave it to him last week & he absolutely loved it. It was pretty much exactly what he was looking for. Not sure how much use he's put it through but I'll let you guys know how he likes it after its been tested. I think even if it doesn't perform flawlessly that for 30 bucks you can't really go wrong.

i am a user and fan of the Responder...i like to have it with me when i'm wading around water, among other situations...it has come in very handy for me...
