Recommendation? Rescue knife or tool

Ohh I know. I have been part of dozens of extractions. Both for practice and for real.

And a spring punch takes no force at all.
You'd be happy with any glass breaking seat belt cutting tool, in the scenario you describe above.
As mentioned in the link, we mostly just made the tungsten core glass breaker for the Glock, because we could. It was a fun project with a spectacular result.
I carry the RAPTOR myself.
Ive tested both; it actually doesnt take much force to break a window, if you have the technique down pat and know where to aim.

Whichever tools you decide one one point to think about ... where you keep them ... they need to be secure and where you can access them with either hand ... many times after a crash one arm may be injured or trapped ... and after being on a small volunteer fire dept for years I can tell you I've seen rescue tools in vehicles but the people could not access them or they were loose and not able to find them.

A spring loaded glass break is a good aid in a tight space or in case of injury ... there are many good seatbelt cutters from small single purpose to knives like the Benchmade Triage ...

As for location of the spring loaded tools, you mention; having it on a key ring along with the vehicle key (for those cars still needing a key in the ignition), would seem the obvious suggestion. You are strapped in right in front of it & you always have it along, when you drive.

Impressive.

Can you swing those strapped into a seat, upside down, with the interior of your vehicle slightly smaller than when it left the dealer showroom?

A simple spring punch has served FD's for generations.

Just to add a thought...If you come upon an accident, and need to help someone. Your vehicle comes with a glass breaker/extraction tool as standard equipment. Your lug wrench. :)

A whole lot of (new modern) cars don't come with lug wrenches anymore, you can try throwing the tire inflation compressor through a window though :D . But yeah, lots of cars don't come with spares anymore and hence not lug wrench, just a tire inflation kit.

Cheesy video, but you'll get the point.
Yes, it's cheesy but a lot of fun to watch.

For those of you that like the idea of a glass breaker, you break it wrong and you'll scatter glass all over your patient. We won't even discuss cutting up your hand and arm. I've seen firefighters try to break a rolled up car window with a hammer. It took 10-12 hits before the window gave way. Scattered glass everywhere.

A center punch is really the way to go. If you have time, tape 99% of the window with duct tape, punch the 1%, and peel out the window in one piece. Clean. Neat. Simple. Slide the glass under the auto so it's out of your way. Let the tow truck driver deal with it when he gets there.

Spyderco Rescue and a Glassbreaker. Coming from somebody who was in a 100 mph multi rollover accident, make sure it is kept securely where it can't fly around and is accessible from a seated position.

What could be the best place at the truck? My uncle would like the idea of a rescue knife and glass breaker for his truck. We'll just finish installing the new rack and tonneau cover before repairing and re-painting the dash board and include the possible placement for the knife. A pocket style placement around the console might do it.

The SwissTool RS is a multitool with a pretty nice serrated rescue blade, although it requires two hand to open. It may be heavy and solid enough to function as a glass breaker. It’s a nice gadget to keep in a vehicle given the variety of useful tools it contains.

Good question, in his pocket would be best. Alternatively the center console, but even that can fly open, same with the glove comparment, the door compartment could work too, maybe latched down. Depends on the truck, best to sit down behind the wheel and see where you can comfortably reach.

Ive got the Leatherman RAPTOR and couldnt be happier with it.
It has a glass breaker and a seat belt cutter. Very well made.
Can be folded and can be clipped in a pocket. Very stout clip.
Can also be either used with the holster on the belt or the holster can be truck dash mounted so as to be readily available. The Raptor can go in the holster folded or unfolded.
Shears can be used for everyday tasks and theyll cut through most things you throw at them. Very tough.
Comes in well under your budget.
