Resin casting otherwise worthless wood

That sounds pretty cool.

Your the man, I got a small brown paper wrapped package in the mail today. I asked the wife, are we expecting any knives today. She said no so I was scratching my brain. I opened it and low and behold a block of handle material with blue peeked through the end of the package. I showed it to the wife, ohhhh purdy blue that's the block I saw on bladeforums. Thanks bud your the man, made my wife's day. Now I just got to make here a blade out of it.

If you need a blade heat treated send it my way. I have not forgotten about your 15n20, I have had a VERRY full plate. We signed on our house this morning and it's been a ton of work up to this point. The little block of wood was a really nice surprise to get. Perfect timing to lift our spirits from wrighting a huge fat down payment check. I was looking at it and thinking, just think what I could put in the shop with this lol. Thanks again man

I'm in no rush and understand what you have going on. My self interest is to get your opinion of the material once you've had a chance to work it.

Very nice. I can't wait to see the next phase of these little pieces of "unwanted" wood. So cool.

Some "unwanted" offcuts that were cast and then stabilised.

I am very thorough with my stabilising and have invested a lot of money , time , testing and research into the procedure , i use both vacuum and pressure for stabilising but pressure only for casting.

the top 3 pic's are live burl edges from York Gum and Rib Fruited Mallee

the bottom pic's are cast & stabilised Banskia seed pods

Well it's looking great. I have a set of scales cast from one of those Banksia nut/seed pods. I wish I could find a source for the pod themselves.

I dont know where you live in Wisconsin but there is a place in hartford called kettle moraine hardwoods that has them all the time. I have gotten them there before. They dont show up on their website but if you call them they should have some.

I am heading south for a few days to stock up on timber and will be getting some more pods as they are common to the SW of Western Aust. , If you wish i can send a few over for the cost of the postage only.
