I am looking for something other than the standard assortment of resin, kirinite, or acrylic handle materials available through any of the higher volume online knife supply shops. Does anyone have a recommendation for an individual or small shop hat is producing truly unique resin scales or blocks? (as cool as some can look, pinecones are not really that 'unique' anymore...)

Get with Masecraft or one of the aluminite guys. They can pot up pretty much anything you ask for. I have done a braided beard, dreadlocks, and a pony tail, among many other natural items.
Masecraft has a lot of different stuff, so you may find what you want there without having a special casting.

Kuraki, a forum member here had some cool looking stuff he was making. You could look him up and ask him.

I could do a few but am not going to have time to do a great deal of anything. But if be happy to try casting something unique since I'm usually looking for something new to try.

You can cast your hair and beard /or from customer / unique than that it can not be :) I tried but did not come out right, I did not mix up enough polyester resin ...................but I will make another one with epoxy this time .
PS . For knive for my son I collect his hair, and I keep almost all his first teeth ...that will be scale :D

I won't do hair. I'm just going to draw the line at hair.

weo, send me an email and we can discuss what you're wanting.

If you use hair for a base, you are effectively making the equivalent of horn.
I have though about doing this, but don't want to have the mess.

I don't want other people to start mailing me hair from lord knows what animal's ass. It's just not part of my business model.

That's HAIRarious (Hilarious!) Seriously though one guy said baby teeth and hair and I almost threw up! No offense!
