When I got my Aeb-l WD-5 I absolutely loved it. It was the knife I had been in search of for years. Thin, slicey, light, great steel, super comfortable in hand. It kicked a pile of way more expensive knives down the favorite user list. Then, last night I made the mistake of leaving it out on my living room end table.

This morning I woke up to this. Res-C, meet Milo, our 10 month old 45lb rescue mixed breed puppy….

I guess I’ll cut the Res-C off and try my hand at a leather stacked handle. It will inevitably end up heavier, which will be disappointing. A few ounces might not seem like a lot, but as a 65 yr old two time cancer survivor who still spends as much time in the woods as possible, a lighter knife is a joy to use.

As much as I want to be pissed at the dog, he’s not the dumb ass who left the knife out next to the sofa he sleeps on.

Thanks Milo.

Good thing the knife was secured in its sheath, and Milo wasn’t injured in the process. That’s more important than any knife.

Regarding the handle, I would contact the mothership. I’m sure they will take care of it. They’ve replaced entire knives that were destroyed intentionally, or otherwise. A chewed up Res-C handle repair would be a walk in the park. Pun intended.

Before you get too far into your diy handle project, consider calling the shop to see what they can do. That’s unintentional damage (except on Milo’s part 😄)—they may well replace it under the warranty.

Good call, and thank you both! And you’re 100% right ScoMa ScoMa about Milo being ok. He’s our 4th rescue and the goal is always to make sure that they’re safe and happy for the rest of their lives.

Thanks!
