Resolution.

I only have one wife, & that's the way it's going to stay. But I see no reason to follow that path with knives.
The more the merrier.

Great thread I collect everything Engraved six guns, bronze sculpturs, pipes you name it I have made a few pipes and I make knives and collect knives I have carried a slipjoint ever since I was six years old I love pocket knives and I don't think you can have too many.

I'm not ready to give up my collection. There's only 60 or so knives in it! One day I'm sure I'll give it all away, but for now, it's growing! :)

It's a LOT like drinking to me. First of all, I'm going to reach for a little Michter's, cause I have a reason to now. Thanks Carl.
Whether its the search for the perfect knife, or whatever reason I may concoct to reach into my pocket for another knife purchase, I'm damn happy when that packaage comes in the mail. I love using knives, I love knife lore, I like learning about knives of other folk's childhoods. I like thinking of reasons I need a new knife... I'd like to think its not materialism, these pieces of steel and bone and stag have a spirit to them that is enhanced with handling and use. Maybe thats why I love traditionals. Maybe there is some solace knowing that wisely purchased knves will hold their value and my money will be parked there rather than in other frivolous spending. SEE! another reason.
Its just become one of the ways I relate to the world, it is the search, and its so fun.

Thanks for the great story and reflections on our enjoyment of knifes. I wish I knew more about why I am afflicted, but have come to realize that more are not than those that are. I still carry three EDC and am enjoying it.

For the longest time, I had just one knife that I used, a SAK. I'm not sure exactly what started me on knives a few years ago, but since then my accumulection has expanded and contracted several times. While I have come to be able to differentiate my needs from my wants, I still find myself having trouble actually enjoying them, as I know how frivolous it all is and how it won't really matter when I die. I mean, I drive a 16 year old car because it still works and having a nicer one won't matter at a eulogy. That being said, every time I get down to just a couple, I end up finding others. Sigh.

I wouldn´t consider myself a collector. Just more a user with a collection (or selection).

I searched sometimes for THE knife. But I didn´t find it. I´m pretty sure, I´ll never find it. There´s always just a little thing why it´s not perfect. Though I have my favorites. Everyone of us has his favorite. I remember a fellow forum member from a german knife forum. He posted once in a thread "We are not here, because we want a knife - we are here, because we have a problem". I forgot, who wrote this. But thinking about it as some kind of sarcasm. He´s right.

Kind regards
Andi

I was mostly a one knife guy until I hit my 40s, not because I wanted to be but because I couldn't really afford to buy more. Now that I am making decent money I tend to buy a few a month.

Oh, I love that!

"I'm a knife user-- with a selection."

+1!

I like having a selection of knives to choose to pocket carry every day, and a selection of watches, and Zippos :D

It makes life that little bit more interesting.

I have 100+ knives and don't even carry most of them.I have about six that I orbit around. My two Traditionals that see the mot carry time are the Case Damascus Nut,and my beloved Case Swayback Jack in Chestnut bone and CV.I've been carrying and using the Swayback mostly though, because I love the Wharncliffe blade, and the way the patina is growing, sigh. Also, there is alot of beautiful Chestnut bone to admire.I got the Peanut as a gift from the Wife first and carried it for a year steady. But then I fell to the Siren call of the Swayback, and she bought me that one too.So I don't have to feel too guilty, great Wife:)!Am I done accumilating knives, probably not.;)-Jim

I will never be a one knife guy, ever, but do understand wanting more and less at the same time. I do not think my grail slipjoint has ever been made and cannot find a maker to try one, so I get to search for more slipjoints to fill in the gaps!

That said, I would have a hard time finding a neck knife or clipped folder to replace the one I made, and the one I designed and had Alan Davis make for me. These truly fit me to a tee, so I have looked less and less at neckers and clipped folders as a result.

In a way I'm glad that I haven't found my grail slipjoint, it keeps the looking more fun!!
