Hi guys, first time this has ever happened to me and I need advice as I have no idea how to proceed.

Attaching screenshots of the deal, and the paypal chargeback. In short, the buyer bought a halo 6 from me on Blade Forums:

user: https://www.bladeforums.com/members/mammoth-armory.583436/

He confirmed receipt and was happy with the transaction on May 5th. 12 days later, I receive a notice from Paypal indicating:

"Your buyer has filed a chargeback with their financial institution reporting that someone made this transaction without their permission. Until we resolve this issue with the buyer’s financial institution, we’ve placed a hold on the transaction amount."

Another item of interest, this appeared to be a Paypal Friends and Family purchase, but the chargeback amount is for $1595.25? Did he fool me and somehow send this as a goods and services purchase? How do i check? I don't see any indication on the transaction of a fee (see picture below). So why is Paypal indicating that he's asking for a refund of $1595.25?

What do I do here? I'm frankly devastated, certainly looks like this user is attempting to scam me, yet his blade forum account has 51 feedback! It's not a hacked account as you can see his paypal account matches up to his profile.

Need advice on how to proceed and respond to the case! Many thanks in advance!

Well that’s likely a felony due to amount of funds so if they come to find out it wasn’t hacked, he’s in some deep poo. If it was hacked, you’re probably out of luck. I think this is a matter for the authorities, no one is going to say “my bad” over $1600. That’s quite a bit of cash.

Was his account always limited to who can see it? Or was this done after the sale?

he has not yet. i sent him a follow up message, and responded to the paypal dispute requesting that he get back to me right away.

He paid FF with a credit card.

He's been online in the past minute or two. I sent a PM requesting that he address the matter here, (as well as in the PM with myself and Boru13 Boru13 )

Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of this matter sooner, rather than later.

This is without a doubt him. There is no account hacking happening here. This is the name/address he wanted me to send the knife to, and the business name matches his user name here.

I am really hoping his spouse just made a mistake here in a unexpected charge contest w/the bank that he did not realize. I'm giving him benefit of the doubt until I can prove otherwise. He's very active here with good feedback, this would be a very "unusual" scammer situation if it went that way.

Update: I just got off the phone with Brandon. I suspected this was a crossed wire on his end and that seems to be what it was. It's 9:30pm on his side of the world right now, so he said he'll work this out for me in the morning tomorrow.

Thanks all for the advice and all. I've never had anything like this happen to me before and was flipping out a bit lol!

I'll post a follow up here as well once this gets resolved. Thanks to the members and admin here for your diligent support to these forums! <3

I apologize and take the blame for this mistake, although it isn't my fault. I just got off the phone with Kevin and that was the first I heard about this issue. The knife was purchased for my father with his card. I can only assume since I can't talk to him tonight that he forgot about this and disputed the charge.

I will contact him tomorrow and get this resolved. The charge back will be cancelled.

Once again, I apologize and hope this doesn't negatively affect my reputation in the future.

Thanks,
Brandon

Mammoth Armory Mammoth Armory , once this gets settled, you will have my personal vouch for life here. I can guarantee you that.

Things happen, and I appreciate you taking care of this. Once we wrap things up with Paypal, i'll post again here with a personal vouch for you that all is good to go.

I'm going to remove the personal info as it appears this may be handled in friendly fashion.. It can be moved back here if necessary later on.

I really hope that this situation resolves itself favorably for you.

In case you're unaware of this infamous member/GBU thread, it's a fascinating read, and perfectly illustrates, that anyone here can very easily become a victim of a scammer! Heath Helton (AKA balls to the walls), screwed a LOT of reputable smart trusting member's here using this exact same "charge back" scheme to steal a lot of $$$/knives.

You may have dodged a bullet this time..... Regardless, it always pays to do your due diligence and try and get a good feel with whomever you're dealing with.....especially involving higher dollar transactions! Whenever I'm selling/buying anything over a certain price point, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm getting that persons phone number and we will absolutely be having a 1 on 1 phone conversation with each other prior to any funds being exchanged. If you're going to dabble in this expensive hobby, it pays to be a smart and very shrewd, businessman. Even then....this is the internet your dealing on, where anonymity allows a person to be whomever's identity they want to be... say even a Randall Stevens.....

The possibilities are endless, on what a scammer can accomplish with a little imagination (as a phantom/apparition) via the internet...... We've seen this happen here time and time again....... Yet these relentless parasites keep coming back here, despite the amazing job the Mod's have done/continue to do, banning their accounts.

Update: Confirming the buyer sent me the money to my paypal account to cover the chargeback, though Paypal has a 24 hour "review" going on right now on my account, probably flagged me because of the chargeback. This seems to be resolved though. I'll post one last time once things are actually released and done.

Once the dust settles it might also be good to update the thread title. Glad things worked out OK!
