Respirator Question.

I have the 7500 half face and I love it. The exhaled breath directed down is awesome for keeping the faceshield from fogging up. Get the 2091 filter for wood or metal grinding. If you are worried about formaldehyde from stabilized wood then get this. It has the chem canister and the particlulate filter. Same particlulate filter as the 2091, just shaped and put together with the chem canister.

Here is the list of available cartridges.

I noticed that the website you posted your info from really does not sell the filters or canisters alone. That will be fine for your first purchase but you need to go somewhere where you can get just the filters.

I would go with the 4th one down with the round pink filters that say 2091 P100. We have these where I work and they are great for all sorts of things including grinding, sanding, welding, and other jobs.

3M7500
Use P100 filter cartridges. If you plan on grinding a lot of Micarta you might want to get a pair of multi purpose cartridges, like the 75SCP100.
If you are going to be grinding a lot of wood, get a set of pre-filters to snap over the cartridges.

Asbestos is pretty easy to filter because of the size and shape of the particulate. any good filter will get it. P100 would be more than enough. The vapors from oil quenchants, , solvents used in cleaning up epoxy, and the formaldehyde from Micarta are more of an issue.

Thanks for the helpful replies guys. I'm going to order the 3M7500 and P100 filters from that boss safety site tomorrow, gixxer. Seems they have pretty good prices. Thanks!

Oh, what size mask should I get? I'm 6' 180 so pretty average. Medium?

Do you think this respirator is sufficient for natural wood leather and steel only? (no stabilized woods used)

with this filter...

I actually have the exact same respirator, but I switched to a regular dual cartridge respirator. The problem with the one you posted I found was the small filters don't last very long until they get clogged up and hard to breath through. The larger dual cartridge respirators like the 3M respirators last for a long time, are more efficient, and more comfortable to wear for a longer period of time.

I am a couple inches shorter than you and have a small face, I wear a large.

You know when the mask needs a rinse when you first put the mask on and you have to "pop" the exhale valve. OTOH if you actually do wear your respirator every day for hours on end you have to rinse at least once a week. The straps can be removed and rinsed also. The one that goes around your neck gets really crusty when you sweat.
