i would like to save as much money as i can so that i can spend it on other materials. later on once i can afford better ill get better stuff. im just not sure which of those 3 would get me by. please help. i need to know by monday so that when i go get my money i can get what im needing.

Jacob,
With out looking at the prices the 3rd one is the one I would choose. I would buy it based on, its not cheap going in to the doctors office with damaged lungs. The one visit alone would cost more than the better protection.
Looking forward in seeing some knives from that new forge.

i was afraid i was going to have to go with that one. ill see if i cant sweet talk my mom into helping me get it unless i can find a job quickly. i plan to just make throwers without messing with any handle material for now. once i do start messing with handles then i will need the respirator. im not going to show off my first knife until i get my arbors so i can setup a buffer and not until i feel happy with it. by the time i get my buffer setup and get some compound i might have a few blades ready for buffing. which means i might end up posting a few blades at once.

3rd one also. The choice of carts for differnt stuff is nice. I use an ov/fm with particulate when doing stabalized wood or micarta type stuffs with resins that put off nasty smells when sanded on the belts. Some think its a bit overkill. I dont mind the slightly heavier carts.

#3. Just purchased it at HomeDepot for $37.99. Well worth your lungs! Not something you CAN"T AFFORD.

#3. I have one and you'll appreciate it in a few weeks or months, I did the same thing trying to decide, when I look back, I'm glad I did. I can't believe how well it works, no fumes or smells whatsoever, can be detected while wearing it. The reason I bought it was to strip a 1500 sq. ft. slate floor of sealer someone should not have put on, not one headache in four solid days using acetone and paint stripper. I can't believe I even thought about a cheaper one.

i got number 3, i havent gotten a chance to try it out (stupid cold that ruined my whole week) but it feels nice from the littl ebit i tried it on. filters swap out fast. its quick and easy to get on and off. i just need to get some of the acid gas filters for it so i can sand my dymond wood and ill be golden.

#3. That's the type, but not the exact one, I used when I worked in a chemical plant mixing some pretty corrosive and deadly powders and liquids. They work, they last years and years, the cartidge that comes with it should be perfect for stuff you'll encounter in the shop. Worth EVERY penny. You might have to trim your goatee :D

When you DO start to smell the fumes or aromas form grinding dust, it's time to change the filters, that's all. No biggie, as you say. In 3 years working at the chem plant, I never had a cartridge die on me; I just swapped them out for different conditions. You're not going to have to replace them very often.

I was at Harbor Freight today but they didn't have one that nice, so I'm waiting till next payday and look elsewhere.

Looks like the one you posted isn't rated for dust, J.Marsillo. I think it would be worth checking before buying that one; if it was, they'd say so in the ad. Also the cartridges are different, the one's in PS's #3 look like the universal size. I could be wrong though, I only read the description on that one page.

ok thats too good of a deal to pass up on. im just curious as to how much the filters cost.

Heck yeah, if you find you can get the right filters for a good price, let us know!

Let me know when it's done, I can't keep up with how fast you post stuff :D Besides I picked up a machete and some files to mutliate, and some propane to scorch them with today. The lil' hottie who led me ten aisles down to the propane bottles was worth the whole trip ;)

it is completely finished. i was heating steel with it today. i finished it yesterday for the most part. had to fill the gap between the bricks and the wall so that it flowed better. not to mention IG told me that i needed to do it.
