Respond to Profile Post

When I get a profile post, do I respond by going to the senders profile and posting a response there, or can I do it from my profile page?
There is a box above that says "update your status". What is that for?
Then below the post there is a like, and a comment box. How does the comment box work?
My computer skills are very basic.
 
It's easiest to just reply on your profile. Use the Comment tab to reply to a message. That should notify the other party of the message. (If you don't use the comment tab, and just add a post to your profile, it won't)
Your status is just a comment - I think you had something there earlier (intentionally, or not). A lot of people don't bother. I view it as one of the social media add-ons, and ignore it.
 
Thanks for the information! I was unsure, so I went to the sender's profile page, and responded there. Next time I will try responding through the comment tab.
