Kinda sad, I remember a lot of great moments from his show.

Too late, G2 beat me by a few seconds! :(

Johnny Carson, 30-year king of late night TV, dead at 79
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Johnny Carson, the Tonight Show TV host who served America a smooth nightcap of celebrity banter, droll comedy and heartland charm for 30 years, has died. He was 79.

Johnny Carson hosted NBC's Tonight Show for 30 years before passing the torch to Jay Leno.
AP file

"Mr. Carson passed away peacefully early Sunday morning," his nephew, Jeff Sotzing, told The Associated Press. "He was surrounded by his family, whose loss will be immeasurable. There will be no memorial service." (Related: Audio appreciation)

Sotzing would not give further details, including the time of death or the location.

The boyish-looking Nebraska native with the disarming grin, who survived every attempt to topple him from his late-night talk show throne, was a star who managed never to distance himself from his audience.

Really, really sad news. I loved the Tonight Show.

Oooops sorry please move to community forum, but I think I was beaten by two other gents.

This was just heard echoing from inside the Pearly Gates....

HEEEEERRREEEESSSSS JOHNNY!

he was simply the funniest man I ever heard.

This IS off-topic, and you knew it, too. Why didn't you post it in Community, where it belongs? Sit tight, let me see if I can get it moved.

Copied to community (where it might get merged).

He will be missed. Carson provied a lot of clean laughs and entertainment.

"I didn't know you were Jewish" to Ed Ames after his tomakawk throw hits the target cowboy in the crotch.

RIP indeed, Johnny.
Actually that exchange went:

Zsa Zsa: "Would you like to pet my pussy?"

Johnny: "Yes I would, if you'd move your damned cat."

What a comedic genius. He left the Tonight Show while he was still on top and on his own terms.

In 1979 I built a house in Burbank and we used to send one of the laborers to stand in line for The Tonight Show. What a blast.Saw him every day for a couple months.Way cool dude.
RIP

Johnny Carson was a Genius, quick, funny without having to revert to foul language. He could do more with a lousy joke than anyone I've ever seen. I knew when Bette Midler sang to him on his last show that I was going to miss him, that I'd be losing a friend. When he left he was gone for good. He left a void that Leno or Lettermen will never fill.

Johnny, I've been missing you for more than a dozen years. Thanks for all of the laughs and may you rest in peace.

I merged all of the Carson threads into one. I merged them into Gary's thread because he was the first to start a thread on the subject.

I stand corrected! ;)

He was a good hand, class act, brought humor and style together, as it should be. Sure wish he could have lasted forever.

He set the standard for which all other late night comedians and hosts still endeavor to reach. A quick, witty, gallant, and gentle man. How many people did he help along the road to stardom by their appearance Late Night? Still, we hardly knew ye Johnny..... :(

RIP
