Rest in Peace Johnny Carson! (All Carson threads merged)

Actually that exchange went:

Zsa Zsa: "Would you like to pet my pussy?"

Johnny: "Yes I would, if you'd move your damned cat."

What a comedic genius. He left the Tonight Show while he was still on top and on his own terms.

Actually I hate to tell you this, but this exchange is a loooong running urban legend, it never happened. Carson himself dispelled this one. You sometimes here it as Elizabeth Taylor, and Jane Fonda herself told Carson on the tonight show once that her son told her about it after he saw it....but Carson frequently addressed this and denied it happened.

It is a funny legend though!

I first found Johnny Carson in 1978 when I was 10 years old, at that time the tonight show ran locally from 10:30pm-12:00am. I was GLUED to that little black and white TV in my room from 10 until he went off the air, almost every weeknight. I can't really find the words to say how much his show meant to me, he was simply the master at the art of conversation and comedy!

R.I.P. Johnny! You have been and will continue to be missed!

He set the standard for which all other late night comedians and hosts still endeavor to reach. A quick, witty, gallant, and gentle man. How many people did he help along the road to stardom by their appearance Late Night? Still, we hardly knew ye Johnny..... :(

RIP

I actually got to the point pre-1982 where I would look forward to Letterman co-hosting for him. How he didn't take over after Carson left is beyond me.

I like Johnny Carson. He has given me many hours of laughter in the past. May he rest in peace. A good life well lived. :)
