Restoration of Grandpa's hunting knife

Some sort of butt cap appears to be missing so I think I will leave that as is. There are also 2 holes in the buttcap assembly that I bored out to 3/16" to be epoxy pinned. After this post, I will be giving it a final coat of 24hr epoxy and do the finish stuff tomorrow.

Interested to see how this one turns out. Leather stacked handles are my favorite.

This is the first stacked leather handle I have made.

looks pretty good, maybe find a fab shop that'll help you make a butt cap to cover the tang and maybe lock into those open cutouts.

Kinda jumped the gun on the drying time but it worked out great. Y'all know I can't leave good enough alone... I changed the profile to make it a little more aggressive and gave it a convex.

My condolences to your grandfather. Mine passed away last year and anything I learned growing up I learned from him. This knife looks incredible by the way! Great job! I'm sure he'd be VERY proud.

Nothing's missing as I can see. The end piece with 2 holes and some checkering is the end piece- that gets nailed down, and locks the other two on.

Just dyed the handle black and cut a relief for the trigger finger. The sheath will be HD. Double thick kydex welt, double thick snap strap, kydex reinforced belt loop, kydex reinforced back and face.

Excellent, Matt.
Your grandfather's knife has been totally revitallized.
