Restoring Vintage Swiss Army Knife

As for the question, if those blades are plated, you'll never get the bare steel as shiny as the intact plating, and I wouldn't worry about it.
I would just scrape and scrub off any thick rust and occasionally wipe it with any oil I had handy. Use a food-safe oil if he's going to be sucking the knife or preparing meals with it.
 
Appreciate your response. Sounds like I need to make a trip to the hardware store! Not even sure where I'd find food-grade mineral oil here, so i'll take my chance too. :)
As a grandpa to a mother... u can use baby oil. While not ' food grade' it is baby safe . It is mineral oil and fragrance.
