retirement knife

I'll be 49 next Saturday, and my father gave me my first well worn 2 bladed jackknife on my 8th birthday. After that, I almost daily walked to the hardware store to look at the shiny knives in the display case. It took almost four years for me to get the 12 bucks necessary to purchase the stockman in that case. Carried that knife for years before wearing it out and graduating to liner lock types. It's funny, when I have one of my beefier tacticals, I sometimes wish I had the thinner slicing blade of that old knife, but when I carry a new stockman, I never find myself wanting a bigger, badder knife. Maybe I was smarter back then then I am now.

I'm 63 and been retired since 62.
I EDC whatever-I-bought-last...
Right now it's a Kershaw Skyline...before that, a SOG Twitch II...before that, an AG Russell Featherlite One-hand...
before that....I forget... :)

Lately tho' I been attracted to small $10 knives, the 'latest of which' I usually carry along with my normal EDC.
Case Mini Blackhorn, Gerber STL 2.0, Buck Minibuck, even a China-made Appalachian Trail Bone Handle "Trapper" from Lowes, whose F&F was really good...each of these around $10.

What fun !!

61 and retired just about a year. Always have a couple of Benchmades; lately, a Gaucho and a 960-801, both in M4.

Don't grow older, just gain more experience.

as my screen name says, i am retired after 30 years as a street cop and detective. i just do not need or have use for a so-called tactical knife as a simple sak alox soldier --08 model-- works great as edc. otoh, please give serious consideration to all of the great traditional knife suggestions given here.

best wishes,

brian

I'm 62 and still working. My main carries are a Rift, a Paramillie or GB, and a Sage 1 or CF Caly 3 for dressy stuff, although the Sage and Caly 3 are a bit small for what I like and use nowadays.

The 3" blades used to be all I carried, but since moving out of town and having some garden space and woods to work in, I've found that a somewhat longer and heavier blade is useful.

I don't do anything with slippies anymore. When I "move on", I'll be taking a pair of dog paw Sebbies with me.
