But I would think the knife would only be complete after having the right sheath designed and made for it.

In a military environment - the sheath has a very major part in the execution of the tasks required by a knife.

From my military experience, a good sheath goes a long way in securing the knife to one's person or gear and making sure it will be there when and where you might need it.

Depending on the anti corrosion level to be achieved in the blade, I would want a sheath that can take a lot of moisture or even submerging in salt water. Leather is out of the question, than.

The direction is the original Busse kydex sheath, to name just one example.
