Return to Gilligan's Island...

All that water and not one knife in LC200N or H1?

You go sit in the corner and think about that for a few minutes.
Eh, I've spent the last two weekends in a kayak on the river with a Para3 LW in BD1N in my trunks pocket, pretty much soaked the whole time. Not a speck of rust or a even hint of discoloration. Might be worse in saltwater but fresh is no big deal. I wouldn't try that with Carbon or Tool steel.

Sun was going down, so we embarked upon the ride home:

I was feeling pretty great though really.
A nice island cruise, not drowning in the river, with pockets and backpack full of fancy knives.
Can't ask for too much else.

Feeling good is all that it's about buddy. Some pretty pricey toys you have there, well, they get pricey up here anyway. Take your pleasure where you can find it. Good for you.

The Spyderco Axe was pretty pricey.
The Zero Tolerance knives came courtesy of Thomas, so that helped out there. :)

I wouldn't mind buying another of the ZT 0392PURBLKWC if it was still available, but I'd have to save up for a while to do so. Plus they are just about impossible to find now.
Having used it and the Hinderer XM-18 side by side though, I'd have no qualms about spending the required cash.

So here's hoping I find a buried pirate treasure next time I visit the island, so I can afford some new pricey toys.

Cool on the ZT score. That was pretty decent of him. I went back to school later in life and didn't have the coin for upper end stuff. So now I have two tubs full of AUS8, 1095 etc. But I somehow managed to get those two tubs worth of knives and, to weasle in a pile of fancy Swedish axes. So I came out ok. I remember having a Manix xl many years ago and trading it off for an ESEE 4. I was perfectly fine with the trade, which shows where my cutting tool usaged falls toward. I like having some fun toys with me when I'm making fires and getting lost in the woods....Well ok, it wasn't totally lost, but it was damn spooky close, lol. Enjoy your fine tools.

I have a number of knives in AUS8 and 1095. Nothing wrong with those steels. :)

I still cannot picture how you managed to make it through such an extreme endevour with only those sharp items... I would have certainly felt underknifed...

Mikel

PD: Great trip and nice pictures!

Nice to share the joy of a pleasant day.

Reminds of the time my car had brokendown.....
Didn't have a screwdriver or pliers for car repair.
Had 3 knives on me.....
LOL

Knives are tools...3 tools is about the minimum to count as a kit of some sort...hence you had a tool kit with you.

Might be a bit out of place in a humor-oriented thread such as this but I guess your comment sparks a reflexion worth to be made...

We cannot be prepared for everything, everywhere at anytime. You having a mechanical issue and the knives on your not beeing able to help is a great an example. Specific tasks require specific tools and many times those tools cannot be part of your edc.

In my van I have a set of 3/8" and 1/2" sockets and ratchets, assorted screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, allen, Torx and XZN bits... and I even carry a 1/2" Milwaukee M18 High Torque impact. Not to mention a multimeter, relays, fuses, cable, cable crimps, electrical tape, etc. And I carry all that crap because despite I regularly maintain my vehicle, I have endured issues while on extended trips (it is a camper van and the living area is another area that can give you issues besides the vehicle itself). But anyhow, having all the tools in the world will not help if you lack the specific spare part (say a belt snaps) or a bearing lets go, or snap a driveshaft)... so when I have traveled to Morocco, I have carried along yet another set of commong spares (belts, full driveshaft front left/right, CV joing boots, even a set of shock absorbers)... And even that wouldn't be enough if you have a mayor mechanical dissaster...

Sometimes we have to understand and live with the idea that are mayor issues you will not be able to solve or McGuiver by yourself on the spot with the stuff you carry...

Still waiting for the pics of Ginger and Mary Ann…I’ll scroll up and go thru again…
