Last Saturday when I took my friend and his family to Ladybug at the southern end of Sequoia NP, it was a beautiful sunny day. Last night I talked with a friend who wanted to take some young scouts on a hike, and he wanted ideas. Of course the ideas came with strings - I needed to come along. I was hoping to take them to Giant Forest, but a late winter storm dumped a couple feet of snow there yesterday and he didn't want to deal with it. So we opted for Ladybug, thinking that it was low enough that it wouldn't have gotten snow. Well, we found out otherwise. First some pictures along the lower part of the trail

When we got to the small side stream crossing, it looked different from last week

There was some interesting designs in the snow-covered branches

They all ate lunch at Ladybug. Note how some are dressed. No matter how we stress being prepared, young kids have trouble with that concept. But they all did fine, and the ones with the least clothing did not complain about being cold.

We went above Ladybug to go to the pool and waterfall where I had lunch last week, going through this section

The pool and waterfall looked a lot different today.

The lower part of the trail is in oak woodland with lots of good rocks

On the drive out, this is the valley below South Fork. There are a number of cabins in this stretch, but they are out of my price range. Some are are full-blown ranches with horses and free-range cattle (we had to deal with a number of cows along the road here).

We all ended up completely wet by the end of the trip. It was snowing on us the first half, and going under all of the sagging branches of small trees and shrubs caused a lot of snow to fall on us. And on the way back down it was warming up and the snow was falling off the trees. But it was a fun trip for all.

Sorry for the lack of streamside pictures, but to get them would have required scrambling on wet, round, slick, snow-covered boulders along the stream and I wasn't in the mood for that today.

It has happened before and will again, but what an adventure for the kids!

How far from site of Bush Bash 2012?

Dressed for wilderness winter adventures - sneakers and shorts :D

Nevertheless it beats sitting in front of the computer playing world of warcraft...great pics!

Great pics! I´m sure that was pure fun :)

Thank you for showing this off!

Kind regards
