I've been enjoying my Northwoods stockman. I really have. Easy to open for arthritic senior citizen fingers, nice wood. And old fashioned carbon steel that has developed a nice patina. I spent a goodly part of my life carrying a stockman, so it's a pattern that I'm used to.

But…

Such a small word, but can speak volumes. Just three letters. But.

Everytime I peruse the Cult Of The Peanut thread, I feel a definite unrest, a sense of disconcerting disconnect. A feeling of missing something. Like a tongue that keeps exploring a vacant spot where a tooth once filled. But the Case peanut, as much as I love it, is just too small and stiffly sprung for my fingers to deal with anymore. A little too snappy and blood thirsty for this old man. Nothing to do really but soldier on with my stockman.

But…

There's that little word again. The three letter word that can change everything. And often by surprise. And unexpected development. A package arrived in the mail, and it was from the Current Grand High Muckba of The Cult. Dan, AKA Silenthunterstudios, apparently has been on a search. Somehow he found a lightly sprung Peanut. A very lovely Remington UMC with brown jigged delrin scales. Two carbon steel blades, with a little spotting on the pen blade, in very very good condition. A very nice action, so smooth and light it pulls open with almost no effort. Blade pull is hardly any heavier than the pull on my Victorinox Classic with lobster spring construction.

Dan, Grand High Muckba, you are too generous. But I am very grateful, and I do thank you for getting me back into the peanut game. This little nut has already been touched up on the bottom of a coffee mug, and is in my pocket now. It's soooo good to feel that little serpentine shape jack in my pocket.

Close up of tang stamp. I think these where made by camillus?

Carbon back springs show a little spotting and darkening. Gonna get darker this summer!

With my classic for size comparison.

Very nice Dan.
Loved this paraphrase; "A feeling of missing something. Like a tongue that keeps exploring a vacant spot where a tooth once filled"
Perfectly described Carl. :D

Congrats Jacknife, that is a really special peanut and a generous gift from Dan, Grand High Muckba. I hope it works out really well for you. What a beauty.

That's great Jack & Dan. It seems like a homecoming. Enjoy that 'nut Jack. Keep us up to date with your new budding relationship.

Nice work Dan

Great read Carl :)

I found that one at the Mason Dixon show and had to get it. I was worried about access to the main blade nail nick. I am glad you like it. No, overjoyed is more like it. Even retired Grand High Muckbas must have their peanuts!

Way to go, Dan! It looks like the nail nicks are waaay deeper than on the Case Peanuts, and combined with a lighter pull that should work out perfectly for you, Carl. Congrats on getting back into the fold!

Very good news! Kudos to Dan for living up to his lofty title and caring for the needs of his cult members.:thumbup:
Thanks for sharing the story, Carl, and I hope you and the new peanut share many adventures!

I love the camaraderie around here. Thanks, Dan! Great gift and great example!!

It isn't traditional but you should really try a Spyderco Roadie. Just a tad longer than a peanut and very easy to open. Mine came very sharp, and it seems to be very high quality.

Looks like a nice one, Carl! Carry it in good health.

This is great, Carl! I'm glad you have a peanut that will work for you, sir. I find myself returning to my little yellow Case peanut again and again. I like the way it just sort of "disappears" in my pocket when I carry it. Yet, it's still "big" enough for all my daily cutting chores.

Regards,
Ron

Lol. I've been awaiting this thread for a few years now. And remember telling you so way back when. Carl you just have too much affection for the peanut to lay them aside for good. At the same time you love trying out new knives and ways of using them.... So you are doomed to answer the siren call from time to time. Like the rest of us

Enjoy the new nut Carl.
