Return to 'nuts!

Dan, AKA Silenthunterstudios, apparently has been on a search. Somehow he found a lightly sprung Peanut. A very lovely Remington UMC with brown jigged delrin scales. Two carbon steel blades, with a little spotting on the pen blade, in very very good condition. A very nice action, so smooth and light it pulls open with almost no effort. Blade pull is hardly any heavier than the pull on my Victorinox Classic with lobster spring construction.

... This little nut has already been touched up on the bottom of a coffee mug, and is in my pocket now. It's soooo good to feel that little serpentine shape jack in my pocket.

Lovely gesture -- and of course a wonderful knife. Use it in good health, Carl!

What happened to the father's knife?

It is not only retired, but in the hands of my grandson Ryan, who has inherited his mothers penchant for family tree's and show c a sing. He has it and some other family stuff in shadow box displays on a shelf, and he's become a real hard nose about safeguarding the stuff. I can't even get him to loan me my old Buck stockman for a bit, just to carry it again. He's got my old knife, my dad's old knife, and granddad's old knife, and guards them like the SS guarded Hitler. It's not like I'm going to walk out with ome of them. It was just one time I kind of slipped dad's old 'nut in my pocket out of habit. JUst an unconscious gesture, really!:o

To make matters worse, he knows I'd like to just carry them for a while, so he watches me like a hawk if I get near any of the cases. I'm flattered that he and my daughter take the family history that seriously, but jeez, is it gonna hurt to just let me carry my old stockman or yella peanut for just a few days? The kid's tough on me. Not like I'm gonna take them out and loose them!!!

I'm waiting for my Yellow Delrin-scaled Case Peanut. It should be in my mailbox from Blade Play by 2:00 p.m. Pacific time tomorrow afternoon. I can hardly wait! :D

Be forewarned, Cap. They are addictive little things. ONce you discover how capable the 'nut is, and how it will do most of what you need as far as cutting goes, it's tough to give up pocket space to bigger knives. You'll need to read the "Guide for the care and feeding of peanuts" carefully.
:)

Glad to see you with a peanut in your pocket again, Jackknife. Great job Dan! All hail the grand high muckba!

Good for you Carl and great gesture Dan :thumbup:
Now we'll wait for another "Peanut tale" with your new one Carl ;)

If you drag Charles M Shultz into this, (The cartoonist that drew/authored the 'Peanuts' comic strip), I'm virtually certain he'll haunt you forever!;)

BTW, I really LOVE my 'Nut. So much so that I bought a dear friend one just like it. (It will be delivered by Blade Play by Friday!) :D

The Captain

I found that one at the Mason Dixon show and had to get it. I was worried about access to the main blade nail nick. I am glad you like it. No, overjoyed is more like it. Even retired Grand High Muckbas must have their peanuts!

Darth Vanadium, Grand High Muckba of the Cult of the Peanut.

I have taken a small jewelers file and lowered the pen blade a tiny bit to ease access to the main blade. The handle scale buy the pen nail nick has a clearance beve in it, so there was plenty of room. The pen blade nick is still easy to get at, and the main blade is easier too!

Good to read!

Thinking of starting out with a Schrade Old Timer Junior, they look like great value for money. Any thoughts?

The old Schrade Old Timers used a great 1095 for the blades and finished them off with a full flat grind. The things sliced like an Opinel. Very very good quality knives for the money. The new stuff is all stainless handmade in China, so the QA is not going to be the same. Although the Rough Riders have a very good rep and a friend of mine loves them, so what the heck.

The only thing I didn't like about the old Schrade stuff was the bolster construction. It was a sort of keyway, with a hidden pivot pin, so you couldn't just peen it down a bit if blade play developed.

Thanks Carl, good info. You know I might still give one of these a try and if I find it useful in terms of size I can shell out for a peanut later in the year. The money will be no huge loss, I'll have a spare and be able to compare the two.
