Hey guys.
I got the wharncliff deka.
But the lock is faulty and the knife is a bit small.

I am planning to exchange it towards BM 940 osborne.
Wondering if there is a similar steel and blade in a different knife I should look at that's similar to hogue ?

I've lost faith in hogue a bit.

Appreciate your time.

I've owned the Benchmade 940-1 and 940. I found both to be way too small in hand and sold them both. I'm curious in what way/dimension did you find the Deka too small? While personally I'm a fan of S30V, I would still say it's definitely a step down from CPM-20CV in the Deka.

To be frank, this doesn't seem like a big deal. Could you correct it with a dremel? If not just sent it back as and get another one. That qc is uncharacteristic of hogue as and thier customer service should be willing to help. Good luck, sir.

The handle just fits my hand... I usually prefer the hilt to extend past my palm a bit.
The blade is also a bit smaller than I expected.

I have the rancor 2 that has just a 1/4 inch difference in the handle.
Somehow the rancor seems to make the hogue a dwarf.

It's not a huge deal; you're right.
But for more than 50$ I expect It to have 0 flaws.

I have a Deka and its awesome. The steel is great, the hand honed edge it came with was great and the lockup and centering is excellent...lets say you bought a bugout. In my personal experience the lock likes to stick to the front of the slide. The centering is terrible and the handles are similar to recycled bottle plastic. If your wanting a stout, premium lightweight folder its kind of hard to beat. Id get another one and have the dealer check it out for you before they ship. If you buy from Blade HQ wright them in the comment section. Good luck brother.

You will find lots of 940 fans, and I’m not one of them. How about a Delica 4 wharncliffe? It’s VG10 but it’s decent steel.

There is chimping on the guide of the lock on the right axis side.
For the price of the knife I think the lock should have a flawless glide.

Pardon my ignorance but I am struggling to understand how this makes the lock faulty?

Can you please post pictures?

I am interested in the Deka hence my questions.

Thank you Sigguy Sigguy .
If I go with vg10 it will be for a fox karambit.
I am looking for at least one high end steel in my barrage of blades !

Hello marthinus marthinus .
The lock does work, you are correct.
Yet for the quality of the knife; It should glide without rubbing or glitch.

If you are left handed or use your index finger it shouldn't be an issue to you.
About those pictures, I have given up on posting pics here.

grownstar grownstar that is not a overwhelmingly inspiring statement.

I'm going to be honest with you. You are going to be super dissapoonted multiple times if you think a lock should glide because the knife was $50. If you lock it and unlock it multiple times it will get rid of any sticking you have. Also if you put lube on it it more than likely hurt it more than helped. There are knives that cost upwards of $200 with lock stick. Take for instance Emerson Knives.... almost every single one I've ever had stuck and bad until they were broken in. They are expensive. The Deka is a very high quality knife with a serious bang for your buck. Im going to explain to you how to use imgur so we can see what your talking about. I would imagine that it needs to break in or no offense its user error.

Dowbload imgur. Go to app. Click little camera at the bottom center. Select the pictures. Move from public to private then upload. Then click view. Go to a picture. Hold your thumb on it, then click copy URL. Go to BF and click the little mountain above the text box. Paste the copied URL. Repeat.

Would you be getting store credit and forced to buy from the same place?

If no, check out Knifeworks exclusive BM Gizzly Ridge for $80. Great knife at a great price. Mine is on the way. S30V is a step down from 20CV but it's $60 less too.

Are you set on getting a BM?

If yes, I find the Boost more comfortable in the hand. If the Deka is kinda small in your hand, not sure a 940 would be better. I'd go bigger. Boost or even the Freek.

If no, I think Cold Steel provides great bang for the buck. The Ultimate Hunter is slightly bigger then the Deka or you could go Recon 1. CS does a decent job with their S35VN. Both would be cheaper then the Deka too.

These are good suggestions. The ultimate hunter is way bigger in every way. The recon is bigger than both of them. Somewhat polar opposites

What about a ZT0357?

If you're looking at to keep the same steel, size, and cost why don't you try the 0357? I love this knife. TBH if I could only have one I don't know which one I'd pick. They both kick ass and are smaller than 90% of the knives I own.

Can you see the same in mine? It stuck a little bit when I got it but after flicking it in and out for a night it went away.

I finally see what you mean that the slotted cutout in the G10 is not nicely machined.

Looking at the your picture,I noticed that the torx blade pivot screw is really jacked up and because of that I'm not sure you can return the knife back to the retailer. You might have to deal with Hogue to resolve the matter.Really depends on whether the dealer will take it back since it's clearly defective.
