Okay, i'm no expert on this stuff. done some fencing for a couple years in college; some martial arts experience, moreso with boxing. then got interested in Modern Arnis. found the stick stuff to be cool. which brings me to:
Bram Frank Conceptual Stick Tape One. I love this tape! Starts with the 12 strikes; then the 12 blocks and disarms. lotsa slow motion, repeating of the techniques from different angles- really seems like you're right there in the studio with Bram; talks right to the camera. he then shows how to "walk the blocks"- using your footwork and body as you're blocking strikes (this was very helpful to me since i didn't really remember that much about placement of the feet with Arnis from the seminars i attended).
Then the fun part for me: he goes into the traps and locks and even some great throws with the assistance of the stick- really is amazing how he torques with the stick. Also, he literally just walks the stick up from the wrist, to the elbow, up to the shoulder and then to a throw (there are four of these locks for strike 1; three for strike 2, etc; so a lot of nifty ways to get a lock on somebody). even if you try to pull away or push forward to get out of the technique(s), he just moves into a different position on your arm, body, etc., to lock you up again. THIS is something new to me- never realized how many ways you could do these types of techniques with a stick! and it doesn't seem to be very hard to learn- he really breaks it down to some basics (example: using the live hand to take control of the thumb for disarms and "stripping.").
ALL the questions i had concerning the basics (that i had forgotten or was fuzzy about) were answered in the first 15 minutes of the tape. I haven't seen the entire thing yet, only about 20 minutes so far, so i may add something here, if nobody minds. if it gets redundant, just tell me to shut up already! i have about 200 pages of stuff to read for a Nursing class tomorrow at 8 am so i gotta do that first.
