I have the 520 plain edge and like it alot. It is a very rugged folder with the aluminum scales. Not the lightest knife, but not too bad for EDC. The axis mechanism is the smoothest of the Benchmades I own. Fit and finish was flawless and the blade was razor sharp right out of the box. The handle is very well designed and fits my hand perfectly. The finish on the handles can scratch and wear, but who cares, it gives the knife character. Only small complaint is that sometimes my thumb gets a little "pinch" between the studs and choil when opening the blade. Not abig deal because the choil is large and gives a good solid grip. Some people dont like the Aluminum handle in the cold.
This knife is especially good around the camp and I have often used it for food preparation and eating. The 520 should meet the needs you listed very well IMO.
Ditto for me. Doesn't quite work for me on woodcarving and whittling.....Blade's a bit large for whittling to make objects as I do, for meandering whittling, ie. making big sticks into tiny curls of wood, it's great.
