review: hill people gear recon kit bag.

I think this is the first time I've seen you review something that's not black

Good review, though. Thanks for sharing. :)

thanks for the tips! that's funny, i just bought this water bottle holder yesterday to test out a way of carrying water with it :)

That's exactly what I was talking about! I was concerned, but it doesn't hinder anything. Even if you carry your pistol, I keep mine on the left side so there's no interference when drawing with my right hand.

Are any of you guys wearing this around town? Do you think it would draw any undo attention? I'm not actually going to carry it for CCW purposes in public, but it seems like a good alternative to a daypack, for a camera, cliff bars, etc for a day in the city.

Depends on your town/city. It does integrate well with a pack and blends enough that it doesn't get any more attention than a pack would. If you were riding a bike, it would just look the part. Just walking around would probably get some funny looks; I've driven with mine when we're heading out to mountain bike or hike, stopped and got gas/snacks and didn't receive too many funny looks.

I really think this is where a RIBZ would shine as they look the part of a vest or even a photographer's vest. Also, if they aren't loaded too bulky, you could throw a light jacket or shirt on without drawing any attention...

i'm planning on wearing mine while riding my road bike...i already use my mtb backpack while road biking that i'm used to getting funny looks from roadies :D

i think if you were on foot and just walking around then yes you'll probably get looks unless you use it like a messenger bag like the pics i posted.

someone on the esee forum asked whether if just wearing a t-shirt would the straps rub through...here was my reply :p

i've worn it over just a t-shirt and covered with a shirt & tie...it's comfy...these things need to be tested in extreme environments! never know i could be walking towards the conference room and bamn! i roll my ankle and i'm stuck there overnight and hypothermia is just around the corner if i can't start a fire quick enough.

Just add a comic phone booth and you would be "Super-Kit-Bag-Man"! :D

update: i've been using it for awhile now (both in the woods and while road biking...and a little bit of range use lately) and i'm liking this thing the more i use it! the other night i actually wanted to buy another one so i can leave my 1911 and mags inside permanently instead of constantly switching the contents but it was out of stock.

i've also hiked with it on when it was in the 90s/high humidity and i was sweating so much regardless i really didn't care anymore if it was on or off. surprisingly, it's when i'm not sweating and when i put it on it puts me over the line and causes me to sweat that's when it annoys me the most.

anyway, i now tuck in my s1 to my right side under the strap instead of just hanging in front (i'm a lefty so it's set for a cross-draw). i can't even tell it's there.

i got a coyote brown and tan molle pouches from willworship recently so i decided to experiment a bit to see if i like it.

this eagle industries pouch fits my suunto mc-2g compass perfectly.

molle pouch for my leatherman rebar and it also fits my spyderco para-military 2 perfectly.

this usgi pouch fits two altoids tins perfectly (the other pouch is also thick enough but the flap is not long enough to close - the top buckle will be at a 45° angle).

...or some other stuff i'd like to keep handy.

Great update...I ended up with three Kit Bags; one is a Snubby. My son "borrowed" one, but I really like these systems. I like using mine at the range for running drills with it.
