review: kifaru g2 zxr backpack.

jv3 - nice review.. Whats the difference between zxr and MMR? and did you consider MMR at all? They seem to offer the same 5200 capacity..

thanks! the zxr's 3 outside slot pockets really caught my eye - perfect for holding my axe or machete. the mmr has a removable frame so it doubles as a cargo hauler and that's something i have no use for.

it was actually between the zulu and zxr for me...i went for the zxr for the extra capacity and the stays are longer than the zulu so it gives much better shoulder lift...in general, the zxr has an upgraded suspension over the zulu.

long term update: i've used it a lot and everything is intact except the rubbery piece on the lumbar pad is starting to tear off in the stitches.

i have a timberline 3 coming in early august (and i already have the ku3700 for overnighters) so this pack probably won't see much use after the t3 arrives though so i still haven't decided yet if i'll pay kifaru to fix it or i should just put glue in the back side and call it done.

I left my xray where the cat could get to it and it tore the torso pad on mine. I emailed Angie and she said send it in.

In my email I said I would pay for any charges. They didn't charge me a dime and they paid shipping too on what they said was a difficult fix having to remove a bunch of stitching to replace the pads. Nothing beats Kifaru customer service.

damn god customer service indeed! i just looked through my pics, that's definitely the most difficult part to fix.

after 2.5+ years and lots of use, this pack is gone...only used it twice this year (my ku3700 has taken over for overnighters and my timberline 3 for everything else) so i sold it to manofsteel89 last weekend. i'm sure kyle will continue to put it through it's paces and hopefully will report back if i lied when i said kifaru's suspension is right at the top :)

the replacement will probably be a cargo hauler with a duplex timberline 2 or just the normal timberline 2 down the road if i get bored of the ku3700 but want something lighter than the zxr...who knows.
