Review of 14 Bushcraft Knives - 4" blades

Excellent review. I believe those Marttiini M571s use worn-out files for steel... I re-handled a couple for friends, and they cut like banshees.

I strongly disagree.

It's entirely fair to test knives in the configuration in which the manufacturer ships them.

Many, probably most, users are unlikely to explore changes in blade geometry and other modifications, and if they do those changes are going to vary widely and be based on the individuals' needs and desires.

Thanks for posting this Feldgrun!
Why do you think the Recluse did not quite perform as well as the F1? I expected it's blade geometry actually thinner than the F1?

I'm betting it's because the F-1 is actually a full convex and the Recluse has a micro-bevel. Andy does that so they can go either way rather easily...some like full convex, others like v bevels. His micro bevel hit's right between the two, but performs better once taken one way or the other.

mistwalker - that could be it too. This is a bit off topic but I wish knifemakers like Andy would not put a mircobevel/macrobevel on a convex grind! I find it is easier to actually apply one if wished for than to remove it! To remove a v-bevel on a convex grind is quite a task, particularly if you don't want to use power tools (heat treat) or don't have one. If you don't want to change the geometry of the convex then you have to remove an equal amount of metal from the whole primary convex grind! That's a hell of a job!
