Review of Ang Khola (with finger grooves) by Rajkumar, Picture Heavy

I can't find "astk" on the HI site. I'll continue checking though. I'm thinking that I might also get a Kobra since its weight makes it seem like a good machete substitute. Thanks for the advice!

The Amar Singh Thapa Khukuri isn't listed on HI's site. The only way to get them is to wait for one to show up on a DOTD thread or to email Yangdu to see if one is in stock.

... I also really like the beauty of the carved silver ang khola that only comes in 15 inches....

I think you're basing this statement on the models and sizes that are displayed at the HI web site. Those are the "staples" that Yangdu tries to keep in stock. However, the HI kamis make quite a few models and sizes that are not shown at the HI web site, but can be found here at the forum in Yangdu's frequent postings. The ASTK model, mentioned in this thread, is a case in point. You might be able to get a silver-mounted ang khola in a size other than 15" if you wish, either because a kami happens to make one that way, or if you email Yangdu with a special request. It might take patience or luck to get one of the less common sizes or models, but they are available. The kamis are marvelous craftsmen and some are true artists who extend and elaborate the traditional khukuri designs even as they preserve the tradition. That's one of the reasons that some people collect more of these knives than they could possibly use on a frequent basis.

Great review. Beautiful handle on that knife.

I also love your "spirit pictures" of the invisible knives.

It's over 15 years ago now that HI built this 20", silver mounted sirupate for me to give to my daughter.

You'll not find the like in any catalog or online listing. It has some other special features too, like custom engraving on the blade. It's still with my daughter, keeping her safe from demons. Don't underestimate what a call to Yangdu can accomplish.

Howard...you sneaky sumnuma.... What else are you hiding that's silver mounted and/or unusual? :D
Who was the Kami?..If you say Bura I think I might just pass out. That is one absolutely beautiful Gorgeous khukuri right there!
I'm not a big fan of colored sheaths, even brown, but theres something about that shade and ganjawal pattern that just reeks elegance.
Theres not a thing to dislike on that whole package. I'm officially green with envy, thanks for stirring up my silver mounted khukuri fever again.....
Just when I got it back under control, or so I thought. :o:(

@ Falar, Davidf99, and Howard, Thanks for the tips, for now I think I'll wait for a good deal to come up for a Chiruwa Ang Khola, and then I'll save for a custom silver one. Thanks again to Rfguy and Karda as well. @Rfguy, I love the finger grooves on your Ang Khola!
