Tanto's don't float my boat, but the spearpoint looks really good. Anyone care to report intial impressions?

Number 001 looks pretty good in the pictures and I will give my initial impressions when I receive it. I'll let you know how the balance, lockup feel, and action are, but that's about it. You'll need to find somebody with a user for that kind of testing.

Mine was put in the mail yesterday and I hope to receive it before this weekend. I'll be sure to let you know what I think of it initially, but I doubt it will see any heavy use for a couple of weeks.

It's very nice, seems to be more useful utility wise than the tanto version. Got mine a week ago and haven't really used it heavy yet, aside from a few utility cutting jobs here and there. The E2K edge quality is very good and all grinds even. If you're not used to the not-so-ergonomic handles it'll take a litle while to get used to, though you can always take a file and bevel the edges of the G-10 yourself. The mini in a spearpoint will be killer when it comes out later this year, definitely have to get one of those too.

I can't decide if I want to get the large spearpoint, or wait for the Mini, I think that the mini is going to be hard to be for a Tough, small, knife. I've got the custom in drop point, and would like to get the buck version also, but funds are limited.

Well, I finally got it. It's DAMN big. My daily carry is a Benchmade 735, so there's quite a difference here.
I was not impressed initially. There was loctite smeared all over the torx head area of the blade opposite the thumbstud and the blade was very tight. One of the torx screws for the blade stop is missing most of the black plating from the head. The blade stop has good sized contact indentations in it from contacting the back side of the blade when opened. The back side of the blade looks rough too.
Just noticed something else. The back end of the knife is almost perfectly rectangular in cross section, but when you look head-on at the pivot end with the blade closed, the cross section is trapezoidal with the blade stop being the large side and the blade pivot making the other end smaller. Seems like it needs some thicker washers between the liner and the blade. The blade wobbles a little bit more than I am used to. Wish it had larger diameter washers, but the liner lock would get in the way of one side.

Well, I got the loctite off and loosened the blade pivot to make the blade movement easier. I have found that even tightening it too much for easy movement does nothing for the blade wobble, so at least the blade moves easier. This did nothing for the trapezoidal cross section.
I am not impressed. If this knife weren't serial number 001, I'd send it back and ask for another one. As it is serial number 001, I guess I'll hang on to it and put it in the gun safe for my kids...

I sent my knife back to Joe Houser at Buck Kinves and it came back perfect. No blade wobble, liners squared off right, just perfect. Thank you Joe...
