I am considering a Camillus boot knife, probably the small one. Would like to hear from people that have them. Also is the knife 440A or 420HC?

I don't know about the steel... but may I suggest you seek out one of the single edge CP74 models. The shorter blade and the single edge make it carry-concealed legal in some places. I got mine on ebay, which is the only way as Camillus stopped making this model a few years ago.

Shootist, if you can't find a Camillus boot knife suggest that
you consider a A.G. Russell "Auto guard" swing guard knife.

I bought on in micarta awhile back to use a boot knife. This is a
very well made solid piece. That or one of A.G.'s Jess Horn
models. You could also consider some of Camillus newer
clipped models as well. Heck, there's lost of options here!:D
You migh even have something on hand to use;) ;)

I have one of the large ones made by Western, with cocobolo handles. Very nice EDC fb. Definately a slicer, not a prybar.

the cp74 bootknife... this really was a real camillus? I saw one once, but thoughtit was a counterfiet or as bernard levine calls them a 'fantasy'.

Did western also make a single edge bootknife with the wood handels? thank you if you can answer here

Yes, Camillus had both the large and smaller version in a single edge boot knife. Both discontinued now. One might be able to find the smaller version as they were not as popular apparently.

Since Camillus started making Western, they did not produce the single edge under the Western name.

Well no one seems to have answered the question, so I'll have a go:

Camillus c77 Boot Knife

Good points: Lovely shape, well balanced, light, nice handle.
Bad points: Could barely cut Paper NIB, sheath looks like the ones you get with Pakistan-made boot knives.

Simplest conclusion after a short amount of work with it, would probably be good is I could be bothered to re-profile the edge properly and get a decent sheath for it. Can't really complain at the price.

I did a long comparison review featuring this knife a while ago, if you do a search it'll come up.

Blade steel, I'm not 100% sure, but seems like 440A
