I just wanted to get some opinions on a matter between myself and another user who I sold a knife to. But I sold this gentleman a knife and he messaged back that he would shoot me a review once I made a review for him. But I felt this person was getting the onous mixed up as the buyer, which is to let everyone know the product they received came as detailed. It felt weird to have the buyer request a feedback when I havent gotten one myself when Im the one who sold the knife. To me it was like a customer asking a store to give the buyer a review for paying for goods, which never happens. I give my reviews as a seller but should the purchasing party generally be the one who's making the review for the purchase they made? I have never had a buyer request a feedback in order for me to get feedback for a sale. Anyone ever come across a buyer like this?? What kind of blackmail shit is this?😆

I've read here that the majority of sales happen on this site with no feedback at all.
Look at it this way- sale occurs, everyone happy, nothing said but if it breaks bad they're in here immediately.
In this case no news is good news. Positive feedback may help but zero feedback trumps even one tiny negative feedback.
I wouldn't worry about it, it has no impact on your reputation.

I've never had a buyer approach me like this, absolutely strangest encounter yet. But yeah, could care less about the feedback, it was the buyer lording over a feedback which made everything awkward. Like I owe this person something when I just sold him a knife for a great price. I thought it would be worth it to get a second opinion to understand I wasn't seeing this from the wrong angle. Thanks for all replys

Sounds like he just wants to build his feedback for a transaction that he took part in. I look at it as people either will or won't leave feedback so trying to back them into the corner of "you don't get yours until I get mine" doesn't make sense to me, but I understand where he's coming from. I've taken part in deals where I left feedback and the other party didn't, and it can feel a bit like "well I contributed to your positive reputation but you can't extend the courtesy of doing the same for me" but at the end of the day, who cares? If someone is hesitant to deal with me because of a lack of feedback I have no problem not dealing with them and waiting for someone who isn't as concerned. You either want my item/money or you don't. If you don't, someone else will.

I have had buyers ask for feedback, before giving it, but not require my giving it 1st. I have also had them request feedback and never giving me sny.
I do think that it is more important for the buyer to give feedback, then the seller, but try to give as both, if the buyer lets me know he has recieved the item.
Many don't give feedback, and I rarely do on other sites such as Ebay. I look at BF as a community, no a sales platform.

For me ,my experience here is pretty much every buyer I've had PM's & says ,all good thanks etc I left feedback & I'd appreciate the same
Or that message ,in a nut shell

Before the OP's post I have not heard of what he is inquiring . Never had it happen this way .
I'm on the fence ,but I guess what harm would it be if you gave feedback first 🤷‍♂️

I always leave the seller feedback regardless of whether they leave feedback for me.

This is the/my way 😁
I simply message when the item lands to confirm I've left feedback and thank them for the transaction, what the seller does is up to them.

If it was me I would not deal with that person again. Feedback for seller is important, for buyer much less so. Holding seller feedback hostage is shady IMO.

I did not think about it like this. It is a good idea ,but ....
I disagree with the feed back for the buyer statement. OK so you are going to possible type the " I'll take it" 'cause member xunknown has the GEC that you want ( even though there were 400 made of those, but " rare" ) . You look at the sellers feedback there's "6" in green . I think a buyer at some point may attempt at being a seller ,so the feedback count no matter buyer or seller ,the # of good transactions is lumped in one number as your " score"
The buyers that really harped on the " please leave me feedback" deal,a big percent I'd say ( for me) ,were newer members with very little feedback, looking to be " recognized" ,if you will ,boost the number by their screen name . So when they finally do a sale ,in their mind they have a better chance
I don't always get my point written out so good but if you can follow what I am saying. After all the feedback by your name is for here only . I don't buy something off Ebay and look at the guys feedback on BF's . It is for this forum. I don't think everyone checks the feedback breakdown, deals etc,but rather just looks at the #'s by your screen name .
Feedback is good ,def. , but if everyone just policed themselves ,common sense, courtesy ,and just be real,do your best ,a lot of problems in our private transactions can be avoided . It is not easy to do sometimes if you get too wrapped up about any one knife/knives. Company ,maker etc.
A newer to the game knife enthusiast ,IMHO,are the ones who will rush to ,well,do everything .
It' supposed to be a fun, enjoyable hobby .
OK my lame response is over & I'll say I apologize to anyone that I did not leave feedback for 🤷‍♂️ :)

Without knowing all the details, my guess would be that it was a new member trying to establish feedback, and just bungled his approach to obtaining it.

No it's actually not a new member, thats what was so surprising about the interaction. I've never had someone give me an ultimatum for a feedback review, in my experience the buyers have usually left feedback first and I would then leave a feedback corresponding to the transaction. The person has far more feedback than myself, but again I've never had someone approach a request for feedback in this manner.
My opinion is the feedback is geared more towards the integrity of the seller and whether the knife was in fact in conditions as claimed. On the other end, people either pay up or they don't, so there's not much needed to say on the sellers part other than so and so paid in a timely fashion.
Thank you for your opinions gentlemen. Much appreciated

I'm hearing you. I guess at the end of the day you have the right to communicate and handle it as you see fit. The way you described above ,that's the way its always been for me ,buyer leaves the feedback first . I also have never had the " ultimatum" version like you describe ,that's odd & off

Thanks for clarifying, and I agree

Whenever I sell someone a knife on here or that auction place, if they make their payment promptly, I will leave them positive feedback on that alone. I will do this first too. The courtesy is rarely reciprocated though, but at least I have a clear conscience.

I've done this too, but when someone directly messages you with some sort of obligation, it leaves you feeling sort of weirded out. Had the person not messaged me insinuating I owed him a feedback review in order to get a some feedback... this wouldn't be an issue. Normally people don't make requests or comments like this. Why I wanted to get a second opinion, I felt this gentleman was stepping out of line by telling me I can do something for him to get feedback. When I'm the one who sold him a great deal in my opinion. Sometimes I throw in free knives. I try to be courteous with everyone. But why make a point to tell another grown man something he knows he can already do? I sure don't like people telling me what I can do or need to do, that's how it came off. No need to be condescending or act entitled like I owe them something for a favor which buyers typically do on their own when making purchases. Again, I was under the presumption that feedback is really in place to show honest sellers. It's not like people go shopping and expect the store to leave them a review for paying for something. That's essentially what it comes off as if someone tells you they will leave you a review if you give them feedback, when you sold them the knife in the first place.

I totally get what you're saying. It is weird. Out of hundreds of sales, I don't think I've ever encountered this.

For the record, I’d leave you positive feedback just cause of your username. . . 👍🏻
