revised 110/112 data sheet as of 3/5/07

Thanks Joe,
I'm buying my first 110 and this will help. I've bought many knives in the past and always screwed by the quality, some that are supposedly made in the USA end up to only be certain models *cough* spyderco *cough* So now I just stick to US made ones, I find the quality much better. Apart from custom and handmade knives like Emerson I find buck to be the best production knives out of the box. My 279 Alpha hunter has been a God send, it's held up to everything I put it to. I tried the China made bucks and was not happy but the quality of the US made ones has more than made up for the few bad apples.

Thanks for the great resource.

My favorite reaction people have to my knives is when they say "Gee that's a nice weapon you have there" to which I respond "you wont think of it as a weapon as I cut you free of a car wreck" While chances of that happening aren't very good it tends to drive home how this is a tool not a weapon.

Eagle, I think your correct. A Buck is the best production knife value for the package. The 279 you mention is very strong as well as the 277 Alpha Hunter. I think we'll see them around for some time. DM

I finally got around to reading this. It looks like my latest four dot finger groove was made in 79, the birth year of my middle son, and it has four pins. I hear the 425 steel doesn't hold an edge that long but I tell you what, this knife has become my favorite EDC; and it looks sexy. I lucked out with this one. BJ

Thanks Bear Claw. You know I appreciate your expertise and will give that one to him one of these days. He lives in Mass. and the the sheeple/ authorities on the Vineyard don't appreciate EDC of 110's from what he says. I've already given him a newer version and he is afraid to wear it. I'm looking for another all ready. LOL

Sad world we've come to ain't it. In the 80s, in my High School a 110 in a belt sheath would not have raised an eyebrow.

Same school today it would warrant a SWAT team. :(

BigJohn, The 110, 4 dot, finger grooves first came out in 1982 or later, depending on the radius. I've used the 425 steel extensively on a 110 FG and found it holds a good edge. Atleast as good as ATS 34 or AUS8, depending on heat treating. But not as good as 440C. DM

Thanks for the information and and sorry it took so long to reply. Back in Sept. I gave this knife a careful sharpening and used it to take off the legs and skin out the head of my antelope and it did an excellent job.
