Revisit an old favorite: Benchamde AFCK

My mini has a small backspacer but is mostly an open design. The Benchamde warranty is no joke. I have an old Elishewitz 875 Sentinel. It was in pratically new shape, pretty much a non-user look pretty knife. I gave it to my son as a birthday present. One day I picked her up to play with it and the backspacer broke. So did a little piece of my heart, cause my son was standing there looking at me when it happened! The look on his face... It was a small piece, merely cosmetic and did not affect the function. Anyway, I sent it in to Benchmade and they said that they could not fix it as they did not have the parts for it. I explained to them the sentimental value the knife had and long story short, they sent my Sentinal back AND they sent a new 553 tanto Griptillian! With customer service like that... they are and will always be #1 in my book. My son was still upset that the Sentinel was not in perfect shape, but he was very happy with the new Grip. Benchmade made a new customer for life in my son.

Just a thought, but there are companies that specifically sell knife parts like round, barrel-style metal backspacers. Some might work just fine for your Sentinel.

When the backspacer on one of my AFCK's broke (they used to use a cheap plastic for those backspacers at one time) I used two stand-off spacers that came with a set of 1/16th" cable stops. I'm talking about those little kits they sell at hardware stores that let you make loops at the ends of metal cable. I had to run the the flat sides of the spacers on a file a little in order to get them to fit just right, but they work great.

Thanks for the suggestions. I jsut figured if Benchmade couldn't fix it then it just couldn't be fixed. My son was happy with the outcome so that is really all that matters. It would be nice to have that Sentinel fixed though.
