Well we went through the Carling vs Guiness, seems to me the natural progression is to talk guns and the age old question - "Do you prefer a semiauto or revolver".

While I love the 'dirty harry' guns (.357 mag and the bigger brother, .44 mag) I much prefer the stealth and more modern semis, especially when they come in .45 caliber. My personal favorite is the Sig Sauer P220, although you can't beat the reliability of a Glock.

So what's your vote: revolver or semi-auto and what is your caliber preference?

I'll go with the semi-autos and .45 is my favorite too. In .45 I have a Les Baer custom carry commanche, Colt officer's lightweight, HK USP and Sig 220. The only revolver I still have is a S&W 640-357. Although the LB is my favorite overall, my favorite to use is the Sig - mainly because it is so easy to take down that I can do it with my eyes shut. Also have a Sig 229 with .357 Sig and .40 S&W which is a great gun too. Usually I shoot the .45 or .40 as they are both easy to reload. As a concealed carry I like my Kel-Tec P11 - 9mm. Only weighs about 14 Oz. empty and holds 10 rounds. Also very easy to take down and clean. Has a clip on the side like you'd have on a folder and can be carried concealed like no other I own.

While I am not a Busseholic, do have a Swamp Rat on order though!

I prefer semi-auto over revolver. I have been shooting a lot of .40 cal latley out of my Beretta Vertec 96. I don't actually even own a revolver and have shot only two in my life!

You can't go wrong really with either gun type if you practice with it and practice some more!

Glocks (G27, G23)
1911s (pre-70 series Colt with NP3, Les Baer with NP3)

The caliber must start with the number "4"

I like the simplicity, concealability and low cost
of the "Zip Gun" myself.:D I'll save my money for
Infi Baby!!!

Jeez Marc, that's like asking a guy which he likes best, blondes, brunettes, or redheads!!:p LOL

I like both and have several of each.;) :D

Edited to add, handguns, not women!!!:D

This is a question often asked of me and I say it depends on the shooter. For an inexperienced shooter I'd have to go with the wheel gun for ease of operation and maintenance.

For the rest of us a trusty 1911 style "COLT .45acp" Dependability, accuracy, and you won't find a tougher weapon on the planet. I know some will scream GLOCK and I agree they will go through alot "BUT" after approx 25,000 rds fired through my Glock 23 .40 caliber it blew up in my hands, that's right it blew up. Glocks explanation of this was a case failure, wich i later learned isn't all that uncommon with the .40 caliber Glocks. The gun stayed in one piece for the most part with the exception of the barrell which was blown into several pieces one of which hit me in the forehead. After I picked myself up off the ground amazed that I wasn't hurt more than pride. But hey I still carry a glock every day at work but if it was up to me I'd be carrying a trusty "metal" 1911 auto and not a piece of plastic.:barf:

Edited to add:

Chip there is no question when it comes to women Redheads :D

Been carrying a gun, EVERYDAY, for the last 14 1/2 years. Started with an issue .38, then went to a Beretta 9MM, then to a S&W .45 (not my personal preferences, but what my Dept. allowed). I also carry a revolver for a back-up. Been involved in a couple of shootings with both semi-auto's, they always functioned perfectly!

However, when I hunt, I carry a .357 mag or a .44 mag (depending on where I am hunting).

I own a "couple" of each type and I have to say,

I like them all!!! :D

Semi-auto's for tactical applications.

Revolvers for outdoors stuff.

No specific reason why, just because!

:p

I haven't owed or fired many revolvers. The one I do remember was a tricked out S&W 686 with a 6" barrel and rubber grips. That thing was a shooter, but I never did like it much. If I could find the guy I sold it to, I would probably buy it back since I have a little more experience with firearms now.

I have owned and sold off many autos. Had a Sig 229 in 40 S&W, sold it. I have several Glocks, but I have found myself wanting to put them up for sale to buy something else. I am a loyal 1911 shooter. My first 1911 was a Springfield Armory, which I sold off to buy more Glocks I think. My first high end 1911 was a Wilson Combat Compact CQB. It was sweet, but there was something there that I wasn't comfortable with. I later bought a Les Baer Custom Thunder Ranch Special. Let me tell you that this gun will be in my collection and regular shooting rotation until the day I die or the day the government comes to take it away (same thing):D . I was so happy with the LBC TRS, I found a guy who actually wanted to trade me a LBC Stinger (Officer's Model type) for my Wilson. Needless to say, I have two very nice LBC 1911's and I don't really shoot much else. I am selling off a Glock to try out a Para Ordnance LDA C645, which is a really small 1911 with their new DAO trigger, bobbed grip safety and spurless hammer. I am anxious to try it out, but I don't think it will ever beat the LBCs. In my heart, John Moses Browning's design is just the end all. Just my $ .02. Sorry for the length.

Semis. Especially magnum calibers :D

When I carry for self protection or reason akin thereto, there is no question ... semi-auto. However, when hunting or otherwise afield then I prefer a wheelgun, particularly in .44 magnum. I'll always remember the Elmer Keith quote where he states that he wears a S&W Model 29 about as often as he wears pants!

If I'm going to be around town, for personal protection or work...I like the semi-auto. Camping or hiking...I like the simplicity and big bore firepower of the revolver.

Novak Special Ops Hi-Power in NP3 and my Fisk Commenchero. :D

Hadn't really thought about it before, but in thinking about the answer to this question I find that I have six of each.
.22 - one revolver and one semiauto
.38 - two revolvers
.357 - three revolvers
9mm - two semiautos
.40 - one semiauto
.45 - two semiautos

However, living in Alabama and, now that I am retired, living in jeans and t-shirts, the one that I invaribly have in reach on a daily basis is a Kahr K-9. In the woods, it is a Browning Hi-Power in 9mm or .40 S&W. Fishing, it is most likely a .38 or .357. For bumps in the middle of the night, it is an eight-round Benelli 12 ga. If you had asked me what my favorite caliber is, I would have said .45 ACP, but when I think about it, I almost always have something else in reach.

If this was a "JUST ONE" question I'd go with the 1911 in .45.
As for a carry weapon it's a combat comander in .45 w/a air
weight .38 on the ankle. For hunting/camping a .44 wheel gun.
Gaming go's to the 1911 wide bodies in .40 or .45.

I'm still waiting for one where you do not have to reload. :D I like my Performance Center K-Comp. I believe the 125 gr HP in .357 mag is still the standard for stopping power.
