Here is a very early RH Ruana with my engraving; Ruana used Studebaker springs for his blade’s, elk antler for the scales & model T pistons for the aluminum. Great example of one of our original true Hand Made Knife Makers – Hope you enjoy the picture of the knife – tom
$1,200.00. Available on my site or paypal th1946@gmail.com

That engraving is beautiful! I would like to see the whole knife though.
Great work on the guard and butt!

Great piece, good luck on the sale... :)

Thanks but this is one of those knives that if it doesn't sell, that’s Ok - I have been in this business a long time – I made a decision many years ago to only work on stuff that I liked! That way if it didn’t sell – who cares – not me – I only take in projects that I want to work on – Has that cost me money over the years – hell yes! But I love going to work everyday & want to keep it that way until the day I close the gate – tom

Great engraving but i wonder about the choice of a Rudy Ruana knife. If you had not altered it, it could have sold for maybe 10X your asking price.

I have a few - i had a home in Spokane for 30 years - Ruana's were pretty commom at any gun show - just old working knives at the time & that wasn't that long ago - I have always like them - If your willing to pay $8,000.00 each, yes, I will part with a few & i have many fiends in the NW that would also part with theirs - - but you would be better off looking around a little I think you can find one for a little less than that - tom

Hi Roland - the large bowie Ruana with the brass were ralley cool knives. I have seen a few of them over the years. They do bring a premium. I have only owned 1. Most Ruana's at gun shows in the NW would bring 75 - 80 bucks in the mid 80's - I have bought them for as low as 25 bucks. You can usually find a dozen Ruana's in the 3 to 4 hundred dollar range on e-bay. I have engraved 5 or 6 of them for Runana collectors & Black Powder guys. I engrave what i enjoy engraving - This knife belongs to me and if it's worth $80.00 or $8,000.00 dollars I want $850.00 for it. It's my choice to engrave it or not. It's someone's else choice to buy it or not. I have a very nice 1930 original Model A for sale - It's up to who ever buys it to make a street rod out of it or keep it original, thats their choice, This is Americia.

Tom you (or a moderator) may want to move this over to the For Sale: Custom Knives sub forum.

I suspect it may get greater exposure...

The engraving alone is worth his asking price, NOT INCLUDING the fact this is a huge collectors piece these days.

10 years from now, it won't stop being a collectors piece. Do the math by his logic (20 years ago...*not even worth getting out of bed for in pay*)

Today (EVERYONE KNOWS *Worth putting extra step in for, all week, and for many these days, a blessing to work all week, just to earn 400)

My how times have changed, I believe him, and oh by the way, how much does anyone think that kind of engraving would cost?

Knife is $1,250 range, easy.

You think i have been beat up here - check out the folding knife link - they really know how to welcome a guy - I had the nerve to post a customize knife on that link - the nerve of me. I'm pretty much one step below a wife beater around here. Tom

Thanks for all the kind words & a couple e-mails that were very negative -

I have revised my pricing on my Ruana.

When i joined this forum I though it was a place where I could post my work & not be bashed to death by a few. But I guess this is just another forum on the internet.

Don't give up Tom. People here kinda get used to seeing the exact same thing all the time & that becomes their world. I wish we had the pleasure to see more work like this, curious if we can get closer pics on the bolsters? That engraving is very unique.
I love it.

Tom, I guess I'm cut from the same cloth. First, Rudy made the knife to be used, and used hard. Second I agree with you, it's your knife and if you wanted to engrave it, then you dang sure should and did. That is now part of the knife's history.......It is what it is. If anyone wants it at your price then they get what they see, and that's as it should be. There is nothing sacred about an old Ruana,or Moran, or Loveless or any other knife (ecept in the minds of some of the collectors). As long as you like it then that's the important thing, and when you get ready to move it there WILL be somebody out there who will appreciate it for what it is.

That’s the way I have always looked at it. Never had anyone give me hell for engraving an old Colt or Winchester - I actually have a fan club out there that collect my work - but I’m new to these guys - I have stayed under the radar for the past few years but I still have a few of my old clients alive & well - By the way - as of tonight I have sold a total of 27 knives to guys because of this one forum, only been here a week or so! That includes some antique knives. Not bad for a grumpy old fart, running a one horse operation.
Thanks again - Tom
