Rhino horn for knife handle

As long as it was for People for the EATING of Tasty Animals, and not that other one... I'm in!

I was going for irony...:D Imagine this..... PETA gets a call saying "I just sold a HUNTING KNIFE for $2500 and I am donating the proceeds to you guys.
By the way, it was made from the fur, bones, skin and other sundry body parts of a number of endangered species.....do I get to learn the secret handshake now?" :jerkit: :D

What's wrong with American Alligator skin? I have two of them I haven't even used...
Gator is passe...not even endangered anymore....the last estimate that I saw was that the population in Florida had grown for a low of under 100,000 in the early 70's to somewhere between 1 and 2 million!!!!!! I am thinking of including a zippered "rug" knife case covered in Florida panther skin and stitched with manatee whiskers. Talk to you later......have to eat breakfast.......kippered snail darters and a bald eagle egg omelet:cool:

Thanks to everyone for the input, I am going to pass on using this guys Rhino horn, sounds like could be more trouble than it is worth, am not concerned about being PC, just don't want the trouble that could come with it. Our deer season has been open for a week here, got some meet last week end,not much of a handle though. Thanks again.

I like the way you think JDM61 & cook , JMHO . I think the Rhino would look pretty cool . No different than a fur coat ( i trap & have since I've been a kid ) or python skin boots ( god could I lay some Zappa lyrics down right now ) ok "my python boot is too tight-couldn't get it off last night"..... "a week went by , and now its july" ..... "finally got it off and my girlfriend cried" ..... "you got Stinkfoot ........ Stinkfoot.... dan da da".. I could go on ;) Good Luck on the Hunt valimas , our whitetail season opens like a holiday on the 15th of Nov. every year. I took a nice Buck fri. night. No handle size horns either but plenty of sliders for my lanyards  I don't much care for snail darters either Tom :) Integrating natural products into our Blades has been part of the trade for eons ( take a look a Chuck B.'s Sheaths & Blades, covered with brain tan leather, porcupine quills, antler , blah , blah ,blah , I say use it . FWIW , Bob Loveless doesn't hunt , doesn't believe we need to do it (he used to), and will not use elephant ivory in any way shape or form  To each his own

I'm all for it too,if I can use something I harvested my self....kudo's to me:)

On a side note how about using deer leg bones for handles?? I cant remember ever noticing the diameter or size.

might work like giraffe , I'll have to save the bone on my buck & give her a try. Maybe a trip to WSSI for some dyeing and stabilizing .

Ran across a site the other day that had stabilsed reindeer horn, so I suppose if it's dry enough, it shouldn't be a prob...

Kind of ironic that the vast majority of Loveless knives are hunters...LMAO

Jdm,
I find it VERY ironic especially since there are now more elephants in most parts of Africa than EVER before. Not to mention the fact that the legal hunting of elephants in many regions of Africa is what now sustains the lives of many of the original poaching communities. Both financially and physically through meat harvested. Absolutely AMAZING how misguided and uninformed the general public is on this issue. Sorry bout the rant.... Couldn't help it.
On another note... It's HIS knife, if he wants rhino horn either make it for him or pass it on to someone who will. Just remember you may never have another opportunity to do so. Jmho.
