Rhode Island Long Weekend -anything to see?

I'm taking my son to RI to take a look at New England Institute of Technology in Warwick. We are going to spend a couple of days wandering around.

Its right next to Providence (isn't everything in RI) and I'm wondering what stuff we shouldn't miss.
 
I'd head to Newport. It should be beautiful weather and Newport has a great waterfront. Be sure to do the shore drive. If time allows do a mansion or two with a tour, simply amazing to see what real wealth was.

You've got to eat seafood and "Scales" right on Thames St is excellent!

You like knives? :D

It's not close to Providence, but Cove Cutlery (www.covecutlery.com) is a great place. Lots of good knives, prices pretty good as well. The owner loves to talk knives.

If I recall, he is closed some days of the week. Call to confirm your visit. You will need a car- it's about 40 minutes away from Providence.
 
Thanks. I probably will check out a couple of the mansions. As for the knife store, that would be my first choice but I don't know if my wife wants to drive that far out to go to a store she doesn't want to buy anything at!
