ribbon burners

Hey Guys!
I want a burner that has a short flame long even flame(about 2" long 1/2" wide). and I thought a ribbon burner mite work. I'm a little unsure how the ribbon burners work I have built several blown burners and venturi burners and i think I know how these work but i could use some help

This is how I'm thinking a ribbon burner works: I you have a pipe with a caped end with holes in it and you blow a gas air mixture(like a blown burner) into the pipe and it goes out holes in the pipe. also because the holes are usually small you need a blower with pretty good static pressure.

How am I doing? I looked fore a build tutorial but allot of the links were old. again I want a kind of small burner sort of for a one brick for but
it not it's just an idea. I assume I can make a ribbon burner out of metal(most I have seen were some kink of cast refractory thing)?
