so iv been wondering, what dimensions is every one using as a standard for there ricasso? i personally have been trying to keep mine around 1in x 1/4in with thickness varying based on knife style

I just go by eye depending on the look or proportions I want for a particular knife. Kevin Cashen swears by the golden ratio (The ratio is 1.6180339887 to 1). The easiest example is a credit card. Trust your eye. Human DNA is programmed to like that dimension. Others use very different proportions. Nick Wheeler has used some very short ricassos which look great. Others use a ricasso more square or long in dimension. This may be on knives where the user will be placing a finger in front of the guard in order to "choke up" on the blade. Keep the use of the knife in mind and use your own judgement. As long as the ricasso is clean and crisp it should look fine.

Thanks for the information. Iv been playing around a bit with some different sizes and for some reason problem just me but anything out side what I felt to be standard just looks off to me. I'm a big fan of nick's knives and. Guess I never noticed has were smaller. I think I'm just going to keep playing around with it till I get a better idea as to how it flows with the knife it's self.
