First impression,

I took possession today of a sheath I ordered from Richard Holloman at Rawhide Leather in South Carolina, USA.

http://www.customknifesheath.com/index.html

I ordered it on 8/6 and it arrived 8/20. I mention this because this was made to order from scratch and he doesn't usually make the Scout style for a SFNO LE. That is quick turnaround!

I debated on the Quick Draw sheath on his website but noticed he had a Scout style shown for the ASH-1. Richard said making me a SFNO LE sheath Scout style was not a problem. This can be worn on the small of the back or on the front for crossdraw. It can also be attached to a pack a few different ways.

I ordered it with snaps for quick removal but also had him make extra straps (custom fit for this sheath) incase I wanted it on a pack without the possibility of the snaps coming undone. Now that it is here, I see that these snaps will not release unless you do it. The extra straps are not snap type but are meant for permanent mounting. Attaches with screws similar to a Tec-Loc.

This sheath is simply amazing. The attention to detail on every part of the product is outstanding. Having a long history around horses and riding them, the leather is what you would find on a quality saddle, bridle or rein. The fit and finish is outstanding. The magnet retention is a plus but the sheath fits so good, that I suspect they aren't needed even after the leather stretches some with time. (They are under the tip end strap snaps) Good snug fit.

All my emails with questions, both before and after I paid, were answered same day. Excellent communication.

His logo says, "R. Holloman - Leathersmith" and it is accurate! Before I ordered, Rich told me his sheaths are "overbuilt", and that is a understatement. This sheath will last many many years.

I have been looking at his sheaths for a while and look forward to owning some in the future.

Richard had posted here in our forum several times a while back asking for some opinions on how he should make his sheaths and was not treated in the nicest way which is IMO why he doesnt post here anymore.

Chris, that sheath is one of the nicest leather sheaths I have ever seen and like you said looks like it will be around for a very long time.

Thanks for sharing!!

Richard is a kind gentleman and regards his customers as his Boss. Do not hesitate to have him work for you. You'll be very pleased you hired him.

FANTASTIC edge work. Everything is nicely smooth and rounded. Places with multiple layers of leather look like they all line up. Stitching was carefully planned and recessed.

Good god, ive been teetering on the edge of picking one of these up for my ash-1, and now your pics have thrown me over the edge. Just love the way this sheath looks... so cool.

That is for sure!

Added three pictures to post 2 showing why I wanted the crossdraw setup.

Ash-1 would be great scout style. I think the blade is just slightly shorter than the SFNO LE. 12 Ash-1 vs 12.75 on the SFNO.

If you ride a motorcycle, ATV or a horse.... this is a great setup and allows other ways of attachment to packs with or without molle webbing, shoulder straps etc..

THe updated pics make it even more enticing.

THats how I like to wear my knives...on a bandolier rig cross draw and that really works good.

THis may even be better.

I am also eating better and hope to be able to reach around behind me soon so I could wear it in center of back without sticking myself to re-sheath.:D
