Seems we're doing a really excellent job of late creating threads on some of the cream of the custom knife world. I don't think that we can afford to leave out Richard Rogers who certainly would have to be included in any serious discussion of the best slipjoint makers in the world.

At the moment I've only two of Richard's wonderful knives but I plan to rectify that situation as the opportunity presents.

Please feel free to add your own custom knives by Richard Rogers in this thread.

I love that sowbelly!

Thanks, Rob. This is another case where the images presented just don't do justice to the knife or the maker.
I can't seem to get good images of ivory since I don't use a light box and rarely have the proper natural lighting to capture it correctly.
Anyway, since I don't plan on changing my habits anytime soon, hopefully you get the idea. ;)

I thought that was what your other thread was. No wonder no one posted pics of their knives in it but me :D

No, that one was just about the stockman...but no harm done, Kevin. Honest mistake.

Richard was the second traditional maker I met and over the years I have enjoyed getting to know him and his wife Sally.

Here is a shot of him and Joel. (These two makers have the most represented work in my collection and getting to know them over the years has been nothing short of a pleasure for me knives aside.)

Great stuff, Gus. I was hoping you'd spy this new thread and add some of your fabulous knives by Richard.

BTW, is it just me or do those two have just the faintest guilty smirk on their faces? They must know something the rest of us don't. ;)

(Couldn't agree with you more, Gus. Two of the best guys and makers in the custom knife world. (And a pair of great wives as well in Sally & Sandy.)

Another of my favorite makers, he and Joel are the best. I've never ordered knives from either but have ended up with two of Joel's and one of Richards, all in Black Lip w/gold.

Here's a beauty - five blade congress with checkered black lip scales.
Nice long pulls on every blade.

And inside is the filework Richard is known for.

And here is a sowbelly from the 2010 Blade show. I got it from Bob Neal shortly before his tragic death. It was the last time I saw Bob. This one is a keeper for sure!

I didn't realize that Bob had gotten that sowbelly, Bill. Richard had originally brought it to the show with me in mind but I asked him if I could wait until after the show and get one with ivory scales.
(Which is pictured above in the first post.)
It was mighty hard to let that one go but I was really happy when I found out that you ended up with it.

I've admired Richard for his clean and precise work. He has the best fit and finish going. Plus he'
s always coming up with something different and he's a great guy. I call him seeking advise and he's always willing to help. And Richard, congratulations on winning Best Folder at Blade.
Joel

As a maker I like a lot of makers work and admire it, but I must say that I have the pleasure of knowing Richard and he is one fine person and his work is some that I aspire to one day be able to make. His work is just so clean and crisp and the function on his knives is dead on.

Well, the discerning collector couldn't go wrong with knives from any of these gentlemen making up this little (well deserved) mutual admiration society...I'm just sayin'... Some of the very best (and nicest) in the business. Period. And I'm proud to call them all friends.

Thanks for a ll the kind comments.

I've been busy getting ready for Josh Smith's show in Montana, so not much time to post. Here's a pic of a knife I did and Simon Lytton engraved. I'll post a few more as I find them.

Great looking lobster, Richard!
(Though not exactly what I thought those cowboys up in Montana would fancy! ;):D)

(P.S. I know nothing about lobster patterns so forgive me if I used the wrong term to describe that stunning knife.)

That is stunning Richard; my great-grandfather had a knife somewhat like that (not quite as ornate) that he always used to clean out his pipe..

What is the purpose of the blade in the lower left?
